Foodie Fridays February 24 – click to listen

This week we chat about the upcoming Playhouse International Wine Festival that starts on Monday and runs throughout the week (Feb 27- Mar 4), and get the scoop on what events are worthy and still have tickets left.  This year the theme country is Chile and the grape Cabernet.  We also have some beer events coming up too, so fear not if beer is your choice of libation.

The wine festival is a fundraiser for the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company and arguably one of the most important wine events in North America, this year’s event will bring 180 participating wineries from 15 countries. Expected to entertain some 25,000 oeno-enthusiasts at 64 events, the Festival will offer seven days of tastings, seminars, and wine focused minglers hosted at the Vancouver Convention Centre West and top Vancouver restaurants, hotels and venues.

The Campaign for Real Ale Society of British Columbiawas incorporated in 1990 as a registered non-profit organization in the province of British Columbia. CAMRA BC is dedicated to the promotion and responsible consumption of natural, crafted beers.

Membership across BC is made up of over 800 individual and corporate members consisting of microbreweries, pubs and taphouses, restaurants, and specialty liquor stores along with many skilled amateur brewers. CAMRA members are eager to apply their talents and experience to promoting widespread public appreciation of the many “real beers” that have become available in recent years.

CAMRA BC is growing and opening up branches (CAMRA Vancouver being one of them) throughout the province to make it more accessible to all. CAMRA Vancouver is governed by a voluntary, unpaid executive elected by the membership. The society is financed through membership subscriptions, sale of t-shirts, and ads in the What’s Brewing newsletter.

CAMRA aims to:

  • encourage the appreciation and production of cask–conditioned beer along with all natural, pure, additive–free ales and lagers in all their traditional styles, also known as craft beer
  • notify our members and the public about quality bottle shops, brew pubs, neighbourhood pubs and micro breweries in British Columbia
  • to support quality home brewing
  • encourage the responsible enjoyment of beer and actively support laws and regulations that contribute to that objective
