Four Seasons Whistler – GPS Treasure Hunt – Family Adventure

Four Seasons Resort Whistler launches exclusive Family Adventure Package in partnership with Whistler Geocaching Adventures

This summer families staying at Four Seasons Resort Whistler can experience a modern-day treasure hunt, navigating their way to fun, all the while exploring the valley floor and mountains of Whistler. The Family Adventure Package provides an activity for all ages to enjoy. This updated version of the scavenger hunt uses the latest in Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to guide participants to buried treasure. Guests use a GPS receiver to hide and seek containers called “caches”, a small waterproof container containing a logbook and “treasure”. Following an introductory course on how to use GPS, families embark on a high tech treasure hunt called ‘geocaching’, finding a random assortment of caches or treasures that range in value.

“Geocaching is rapidly growing in popularity,” said Nic Nero, Founder and CEO of Whistler Geocaching Adventures. “Today, there are over a million public geocaches available, placed in over 100 countries and all seven continents including Antarctica.”

The cache locations are often beautiful, out-of-the-way places that visitors to Whistler might not dare venture to on their own or even know about. The GPS doubles as a tracker and radio should families become lost or require assistance and help is always close by. The cache, which contains a ‘treasure’, can be arranged in advance by the group leader. For instance, a Polly Pocket™ might be used for a family with small children to find. Families also receive a prize ‘Geocoin’ at the end of their adventure which they can register and track online as it moves around the world.

Four Seasons Resort Whistler provides the ultimate base camp on this exciting adventure. Starting from CAD $385 per night the Family Adventure Package includes a Deluxe Room and 10 per cent savings on all meals purchased at the Resort including the restaurant, bar, pool and in-room dining. Complimentary adult tickets are provided plus free tickets for all children under 10 for Whistler Geocaching Adventures. Families are also given a backpack filled with goodies upon arrival to prepare them for the great outdoors. Orienteering items include a Four Seasons water bottle, Executive Chef Scott Thomas Dolbee’s Signature Trail Mix, a British Columbia Guide to Wildlife, a Cliff Bar™, granola bar and chocolate.

Geocaching is a worldwide treasure-seeking game with the help of a GPS or GPS-enabled mobile device. It is one of the fastest growing live, recreational social media activities in the world. Geocachers are families with children, retired individuals and grandparents, hikers, explorers and outdoors-people.
