There’s still time to get festive and catch some holiday magic with The Nutcracker at The Centre For Performing Arts. On until December 22, The Goh Ballet stars superstar Paloma Herrera, principal dancer from the American Ballet Theatre in New York. She’s the magical Sugar Plum Fairy and her performance, alongside Dmitri Dovgoselets, a soloist from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet is stunning. The show is choreography by world-renowned Emmy Award winner Anna-Marie Holmes and dancers from China’s celebrated Liaoning Ballet  make their Canadian debut in the star-studded cast.  An actual live orchestral accompaniment completes the show.

The journey begins a at the Stahlbaulm’s house at their annual Christmas party, where the guests celebrate, dance and mingle. Godfather Drosselmery, the toymaker, arrives and Clara receives her nutcracker. It’s a jolly scene and the grandmother steals the show with her humourous dancing. Clara falls asleep and the magic begins as she awakes to find the toys have come to life and eventually the Nutcracker appears as a human prince and the story continues.

In this version the cast includes 200 plus dancers and there’s added magic with hand-painted sets and dazzling costumes, including a giant dress that holds ten gymnasts underneath. A magician, a drag queen, Russian folk dancers and ballroom couples elevate the show, features a variety of talent, resulting in a production that’s truly unique.to see international dancers share the stage in our holiday classic,” says Chan Hon Goh, Executive Producer.
