on

halloweenhungerOn Thursday, October 30, the Portside Pub will be transformed into a bone-chilling haunted pirate ship for the first ever Halloween for Hunger in support of the Backpack Buddies program. Entry will be by donation with 100% of the proceeds going to feed children in need.

The event kicks off at 9:00  pm with the DJ hitting the stage at 9:30 pm. While entry is by donation, those who contribute $20 or more will receive a free beer as well as a choice of a sailor hat, pirate hat, or an eye patch to match the evening’s theme.

Supported by kids for kids, Backpack Buddies currently works partner schools including Collingwood, West Bay Elementary, Brockton and Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School to fundraise and prepare backpacks for Queen Alexandra and Grandview Elementary School in the Downtown Eastside. In operation since 2012, the program currently provides over 300 children on a bi-weekly basis with breakfasts, lunches, and dinners plus snacks, yogurt, cheese, and fresh fruit.
