Joe Fortes Update

oysterRELEASING THE FINAL 30 TICKETS

The shuckers, the slurpers, and the swirlers are returning. The last two would be you, if you’re quick enough to get tickets to the 7th annual Slurp & Swirl™. This is voted one of Canada’s top 5 “Local Secrets, Big Finds” on Travelcity.ca. It’s one of those nights people remember fondly, if not entirely clearly.

Here’s the plan. First, Western Canada’s top oyster shuckers go shell for shell at this wine and oyster wingding supporting the British Columbia Professional Firefighters’ Burn Fund. Second, you slurp divinely soft, fresh, fleshy mollusks while making your merry way among tasting stations – and making grandly generous offers in the silent and balloon auctions and 50-50 draws.

Third, you’ll be totally primed for your inner dancing fool to bust loose when The March Hare cranks up at 9pm.

So, do good by eating and drinking well on Tuesday, Nov 10, 2009, 6 to 11pm at Joe Fortes. We are releasing the final 30 tickets, so call us now. Or ask our servers for more info on your next visit. Just say sslluurrrp. They’ll

STARRING ROLE AT VIFF

Playing lead roles as swashbuckling oyster shuckers, our Executive Chef, Scott Pratico, and Executive Sous Chef, Curtis Webb, did star turns at the Vancouver International Film Festival Gala.

The duo shucked more than 1,000 oysters for the crowd of 1,200 at the event, for which Joe Fortes was one of five restaurant sponsors. The gala and their performances garnered rave reviews, but there’s no word yet on offers of roles for Pratico and Webb. Their agents say they’re looking for scripts that stretch them as chefs, especially ones involving intriguing appetizers, glamorous entrée and recipe theft.

Anything like that gathering dust in your drawer?

SUPERIOR CONFECTION

The act of surrender is especially sublime when one succumbs to a superior confection. It’s something Escoffier might have said, had he tasted November’s featured dessert: Chocolate Duo, a rich chocolate pate with cognac, macerated cherries, warm molten center cake and Tahitian vanilla gelato.

Check out Joe’s selection of delectable desserts.

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN
