Kitsilano Brunch Crawl

Last weekend, we did a brunch crawl two days in a row, meaning we had to sample a hell of a lot of food. How do I do it without falling into a food coma? I don’t eat everything on my plate, however tough it is sometimes. This time the brunch it was my own hood, Kitsilano, and we walked the route, sampling bites along the way.

The crawl is part of Dine Out Vancouver‘s and Vancouver Foodster’s collaboration series of which there are still a few more brunches that you can join, this weekend and the following.

Novo Pizzeria

First stop was NOVO PIZZERIA where I did have to eat the entire piece of pizza and will be back to consume more of their thin crust Neapolitan-style pizza . I recently had an amazing pasta sampling here as well; these people are putting out some great food.
Dish included Novo Breakfast pizza – Fontina, fior di latte, Aleppo pepper, red onions, smoked pancetta, sous vide quail egg, Iberian salumi, and chives, or the vegetarian version,  with Fontina, fior di latte, roasted garlic, roasted red peppers, sous vide quail egg, burratta, balsamic reduction, and mint.
Arugula and blood orange salad- frisee, oil cured
olives, candied almonds, parmigiano reggiano,
grapefruit vinaigrette.
Sicilan canoli- bufalo ricotta, orange blossom water,
citrus essence, pistachios.

Momento Coffee

MOMENTO COFFEE served up an oatmeal, chocolate chia pudding, GREAT coffee from Rocanini Roasters and some buttery mini chocolate or plain croissants.

Momento

The coffee is super smooth and the couple who own the shop  passionate about their coffee. I’ll certainly return for some java.

Linh Cafe

LINH CAFE is fairly new to Kitsilano and I’ve been meaning to go in. Loved their Spicy Baugette Sticks with liver pate, fried shallots, house made hot Sriracha. The spring rolls were a bit disappointing though, greasy and rather bland. The Peanut Macarons with peanut butter cream, almond, toasted peanut made their way home for a later sweet treat.

Krokodile Pear

KROKODILE PEAR juices are darn tasty. The English Bay with orange, cucumber, grapefruit, lemon, mint was my favourite, although The Rockies with almond, Brazil nuts, raw vanilla, maple
syrup, Himalayan rock salt and chia gel had an interesting texture  that was initially odd, but I got used to it after a few sips.

Darby's Pub

DARBY’S PUBLIC HOUSE served up a Eggs Benny with either dijon IPA ham / sauteed spinach and tomato, with Hangover Hash or (breakfast sausage, bacon, mushroom and onion) or Veggie Hash (mushroom, onion, roasted red pepper, kale, cabbage). Mini Huevos Rancheros – two 4″ corn tortillas filled with cheddar and edam cheeses, beans, corn and tomato with our house made jalapeno ginger sauce, topped with a soft poached chicken egg. The eggs were perfectly poached; the plate a nice selection from their breakfast menu.

Rain or Shine

RAIN OR SHINE ICE CREAM where I choose the London Fog with waffle pieces and I adored it! Perfect amount of bergamont, awesome creamy texture complimented with the crunch of the cone. Blueberry Balsamic with waffle pieces or coconut chocolate chunk with seasonal berry compote were the other choices, but I think I made the right now.

Fun brunch with lots of walking required in between stops and a bit more to burn off that ice cream after!
