FAIRVIEW CELLARS
Fairview Cellars is the culmination of a life long quest of Bill Eggert’s to own and operate his own winery. The 10 acre property located adjacent to the first green of the Fairview Mountain Golf Course was purchased by Bill in 1989. After development of the water system the vineyard was started in 1993. The first commercial vintage was produced from the 1997 crop. Half the property was planted to Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc and Merlot were planted in equal parts to fill out the property. One row of Syrah and one row of Petit Verdot were added later, and Sauvignon Blanc was planted on a lower terraced bench close to the first green in 2007.
Cabernet Franc:
Usually in the vicinity of 300 cases are produced annually from the estate vineyard. The remaining is used in the blends.
Merlot:
Only small quantities are produced as a varietal. The Merlot is more important to the blends to give them mid-palate depth and softness. In some years, this wine is only available through the winery.
Cabernet Sauvignon
This Varietal is the work horse of Fairview Cellars. There can be as many as three different bottlings. The estate always produces at least 200 cases as a varietal. The Bear and Two Hoots are predominantly Cab. Sauv. blends. The Quail’s Wayside vineyard (QWV) is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon. Some years the wine from QWV is blended in both the Two Hoots and the Madcap Red. In 2009 it has been kept separate because of the exceptional quality of the wine. Look for a 2011 fall release of “The Wrath”.
Cabernet Sauvignon is also purchased from Inkameep Vineyards which is under the management of Sam Baptiste. A pioneer in the BC Wine Industry, Sam’s grapes are prized within the industry, and Fairview Cellars is happy to have 2 acres of his under contract. The “Two Hoots” blend receives the majority of Sam’s grapes, after all he’s a hoot. (as is Bill)
Two Hoots
A Cabernet/Merlot blend specifically produced and priced for daily consumption. (really!) Although there are many reasons for the name Two Hoots, the main reason is to honour the return every year of the Great-Horned Owls to nest on the Fairview property. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc is fashioned to make the wine available to drink within 3 years of production yet be able to hold in the bottle for upwards of 10 years. Of course this varies with vintages.
Madcap Red
This Merlot based blend is the answer for those of you that prefer Merlots. Quantities of both Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are blended to add some depth and complexity to the Merlot. (most would agree that by adding the Cabs to Merlot a more complex layered wine results) This wine is available in large (relatively speaking) quantities.
The Bear
Previously call “The Bear’s Meritage” this is part of the “Premier Series” wines (along with the higher end Cabs). A blend of five of the classic Bordeaux cultivars (Cab. Sauv., Merlot, Cab. Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot) with Cabernet Sauvignon being at least 50% of the blend, sometimes reaching as high as 75% of the blend in exceptional Cab. years. The best barrels are always chosen for this wine, with the Cab. Sauv. grapes usually coming from a later picking to add to the complexity. The wine is stored for longer periods of time in the barrel. (anywhere from 14 to 20 months) The time “on the skins” is usually longer, again to achieve higher extraction from the skins.
Sauvignon Blanc
To date this is the only white table wine produced by Fairview Cellars. Up until 2010 all the grapes for this wine were purchased. Bruce Iverson and his wife Susie have provided the grapes since 2007. A passionate organic grower who consistently produces a high quality product for Bill to work with. Two rows of Semillon on their estate adds a much welcome complexity to the final product.
As of 2010, a small acreage of Sauvignon Blanc on the estate has come into production. Located on the lower level of the bench next to the first green, the microclimate formed by the irrigation schedule of the golf course is providing the necessary atmosphere for high quality grapes. These grapes are blended with the Iverson’s.
Bucket O’ Blood
Named in honour of the Moffatt Saloon nicknamed “The Bucket Of Blood” by the miners of the 1890’s. This Saloon was situated up the “Reed Creek” draw above the Fairview Townsite. Syrah is the theme grape in this wine, but it is not necessarily the predominant in terms of volume. There is only one row of Syrah planted on the estate producing no more than two barrels in any one year; thus, depending on the year and the quality of the wine, either Cabernet Sauvignon or Cabernet Franc or both can used in the blend.
BLACK CLOUD WINERY
Black Cloud is the brainchild of Township 7’s award-winning wine maker Bradley Cooper and his wife Audralee Daum. Together, they are producing hand-crafted, limited-edition Pinot Noir for a select market. Wine making in this style is nicknamed “les garagistes” in some circles; each wine is allowed to define itself in a more natural expression of the grape. Black Cloud’s first wine was the 2006 Pinot Noir, hand-picked in Okanagan Falls and carefully fermented to extract the full power of the grape. Our story: In 2008, a series of events left their consulting business holding over 250 cases of premium Pinot Noir that Brad had made for a client who went broke. This ‘black cloud’ event was their chance to find the ‘silver lining’ and turn things around to begin fulfilling their dream of having their own winery.

TANGLED VINES ESTATE WINERY
…made by three guys and a girl (and represented by me!)
Tangled Vines was established August 2005. Previously a vineyard, Pinot Blanc and Gewürztraminer vines flourished in the dry Okanagan climate. Located in Okanagan Falls, directly between Penticton and Oliver, Tangled Vines is across the street from Wild Goose and Stag’s Hollow; Noble Ridge Winery is just around the corner. The majestic hills of Blue Mountain and Hawthorne Mountain provide a scenic background that cannot be surpassed, and all of these award winning wineries are proud to be located in beautiful Okanagan Falls.
In Spring 2006, Tangled Vines planted six acres of sauvignon blanc and pinot gris. The goal of Tangled Vines is to produce dry white wines that compliment BC cuisine. The four partners, John, Craig, Maxine and Clark are from Vancouver and have worked in the restaurant industry; thus providing them with an appreciation of products of exceptional quality combined with the abundance of cultural influences that extend into the cuisine and lifestyle of those living on the West Coast.
In 2007, Tangled Vines opened its wine shop and tasting room, and released a Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Reserve Pinot Blanc, Reserve Riesling and a Rose called Tickled Pink. Tangled Vines was inspired to create this unique and dry rose and was proud to enter in contract with the Breast Cancer Society of Canada a partnership in which the society receives one dollar from every bottle of Tickled Pink sold.
When life gets too tangled, unwind with our wine.
