new heli-skiing program kicks off at silver star mountain resort

Silver Star Mountain Resort has partnered with Eagle Pass Heliskiing for the 2011/2012 Season. The partnership will offer a new heli-ski program to visitors. Ski and board enthusiasts will now be able to experience the thrill of a lifetime, and enjoy endless untracked powder with a heli-ski adventure based right in the heart of Silver Star Mountain Resort.

Single or multi-day adventures start right at your slope side doorstep. Eagle Pass will have a Bell 212 helicopter stationed at Silver Star allowing guests to pre-plan or take advantage of last minute opportunities. The 212 will take ten skiers and two professional certified guides from Silver Star’s quaint village up to the breathtaking Gold Range in the Monashee Mountains. From there, the group can choose to stay together or split into smaller groups, so guides can provide more terrain options to ensure a truly personalized experience.

“The majestic Monashee Mountain range has been tempting us for years. As such, we are very excited to be offering heli-skiing from our resort,” says Silver Star General Manager, Michael Sherwood. “Guests can choose to take the time to get their ski legs on the resort’s varied terrain before taking to the skies, or sign up for some powder lessons from our world class Snowsport School.”

Priced between $1000 and $1200 CDN per day, a single day heli-ski program includes 6 to 8 runs (approximately 15,000 to 20,000 vertical feet) and a hearty lunch served with a view second to none. Although last minute options exist, pre-booking is recommended.

Eagle Pass Heliskiing was the brainchild of three impassioned local Revelstoke ski guides coming together with similar ideas and aspirations. Many years of exploration and permit processing led to Eagle Pass Heliskiing being granted a 30-year tenure for over 1,000 square kilometers (270,000 acres) of some of the world’s best heli-skiing terrain.

“This is a really exciting opportunity for both Eagle Pass and Silver Star,” says Matt Pinto, Director of Ski Operations for Eagle Pass Heliskiing. “We are confident Okanagan locals and resort guests will be thrilled about having a helicopter ready and waiting to take them powder skiing.”
