Sandhill Winery of the Year – Wine Access

Vancouver, BC: Canada’s national wine magazine Wine Access selected Sandhill as ‘Winery of the Yearfrom among 157 wineries across the country in the 9th annual Canadian Wine Awards. The award was announced on November 3rd.

Sandhill rose to the top winning the coveted Winery of the Year award and a total of 21 medals, including White Wine of the Year for Sandhill Small Lots 2008 Viognier and Red Wine of the Year for Sandhill Small Lots 2007 Syrah. Ten wines in the Sandhill Small Lots Program were recognized with a mark of excellence and awarded a medal in this year’s competition.

“Winning this coveted award is a great honour as it represents the culmination of 12 years of hard work and dedication to realize our dream for Sandhill as the premier Canadian winery,” says Sandhill master winemaker Howard Soon. “We’re grateful for the support of our outstanding grape growers who have embraced Sandhill’s single vineyard philosophy and played a key role in our success.”

“Each year, the tasting panels at the Canadian Wine Awards work their way through close to 1000 wines and pass the best along to our readers,” says Anthony Gismondi, head judge and editor-in-chief of Wine Access magazine. “Sandhill led all competitors in 2009 and this achievement must be directed to Sandhill’s master winemaker Howard Soon.”
