SEASONS GREETINGS FROM OROFINO

on

We hope this letter finds you all happy, healthy, and looking forward to some quality holiday time. We’d like to take this opportunity fill everyone in on all of the happenings here at Orofino. It has been an incredibly busy and successful year and we have news to share!

2010 Harvest

We  are very excited about the wines from the 2010 harvest. The season was a bit cooler than what we have become accustomed to, but  the vineyards where the work  was done to compensate for the cooler vintage produced some really fine grapes. Fortunately, meticulous farming here in our own vineyard resulted in excellent grapes and the growers who we partner with worked hard to grow some delicious grapes. Harvest was later than usual but we were frost-free here until the November long weekend. Our last press day was less than 2 weeks ago and now everything is comfortably aging in the cellar. Our new winery addition was ready just in time for harvest and was quickly filled with barrels and ferments as our production has now reached upwards of 3200 cases! Cheers to the farmers we work with! Our success has so much to so with their diligence  in their vineyards.

Gold Medal Plates

Orofino was chosen to participate in the Gold Medal Plates Event held at TCU Place in Saskatoon during the last weekend of October. Saskatoon’s Truffles Bistro chef/owner Lee Helman  chose our 2009 Riesling to go into battle with 7 other chefs vying for gold, silver,  and bronze medals in a competition. Each chef prepared a dish and paired it with a wine, hoping it would hit the mark and win them a medal. While the esteemed chefs did not choose Lee’s dish, we had a lot of fun with it and it was great to show off our wine in our home province of Saskatchewan. The night concluded with a live auction that raised close to $400,000 for the Canadian Olympic Foundation! For more information on the national event go to www.goldmedalplates.com .

Orofino Wines Crossing Borders

We are very excited to share the news about our wines in other provinces. We have  waded through the red tape and beaurocratic pitfalls to proudly present our wines to Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Quebec. Look for them in select fine restaurants in all three of these provinces as well as Cava Secreta Fine Wine Store in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We would like to thank those who have helped bring our wines to these new frontiers . Special kudos goes to the team at Cava Secreta and DNA restaurant in Montreal.
