Secret Chef Karen Dar Woon 10 Mile Diet – 10 days of great local food

In honour of the latest release of the Richmond Local Food Guide, personal chef Karen Dar Woon is joining her friends from Terra Nova Farm in a week+ of uber-local eating. This is the third year that Your Secret Chef has participated in 10 days of 10 mile dieting. You can follow @YourSecretChef on twitter to find out what’s for dinner.

The 2010 Local Food Guide lists over 30 places to acquire locally grown food on Lulu Island, including farmers who sell from farm-gate stands, u-picks, and CSAs. And, there’s a list of community garden sites, for those who want to grow their own fruits and veggies. In cooperation with Richmond Food Security Society, Karen leads drop-in canning workshops at Garratt Wellness Centre. The workshops are free to attend, and preserve  produce from Terra Nova Farm and the Fruit Tree Picking projects for use by Community Meal programs throughout Richmond.

After attending the Canadian Chefs’ Congress in Duncan, BC, Your Secret Chef headed to Surrey, BC in October to lead workshops at the THESA Home Economics Teachers’ Conference, covering local foods, alternative culinary careers, and gluten-free cooking.

Your Secret Chef offers in-home meal service, dinner parties, meeting catering, personalized cooking instruction, group lessons and workshops. A natural leader, she is a popular Kitchen Manager for non-profit groups who wish to self-cater their events, conferences and receptions. Karen has been featured in the Vancouver Sun, Georgia Straight, Global TV and Urban Diner.
