Exploring Abbotsford Tulips and Craft Beer

What’s up in Abbotsford these days? Blossoms and beer!

Abbotsford is growing rapidly of late and the city is attracting all sorts of new and very cool businesses and festivals! We recently ventured out for the Abbotsford Tulip Festival (on until May 1, 2016), and on the way back stopped in for some craft beer and a locally sourced dinner.

The area is known for it’s farmland and while the Tulip Festival is seasonal, many farms and attractions are open year round; check the Circle Farm Tour website for touring suggestions here.

Be sure to mark your calendar for August 19, 2016 when the Applebarn at Taves Family Farm opens for the season and plan a day in the country.

The newest brewery is Field House Brewing and they’ve got a variety of seasonal beers and a gorgeous tasting room.

Bonnie Friesan and her efficient crew Faspa and Co Catering and the brewery and chef worked together to produce a well-paired dinner at the brewery using local and seasonal ingredients

Brookside Inn – Escape to Abbotsford

Boutique Hotel in Abbotsford Offers Welcoming Retreat

Over the holiday season we drove up to Kelowna to visit the Anderton clan and decided a stop in Abbotsford on the way back to Vancouver would be in order. We could catch up with some good friends and take a break from the rather stressful highway driving. We booked into a recommended local bed and breakfast, the Brookside Inn Boutique Hotel. The Inn is not far off the highway, but in a country setting, with particularly festive decor and the biggest Christmas tree we’d seen; at least this year.

Situated in Pepin Brook Vineyard Estates, Brookside Inn is run by Chris and Sandi Buis, a charming couple who were readily available when needed and completely out of site when not. Will a views to the local mountains, this area is known for great hiking and bird-watching. Who knew?

Brookside Inn

The bedrooms have a movie theme (ours was Midnight in Paris) and they are then styled around that. The suites are spacious with a sitting area and television, a soaker tub and uber comfy beds where a good nights sleep comes easy.

The Buis’ were having an open house and invited us to join in, so we of course obliged and got to know a few of the neighbours.

Craving sushi, we went to Hana Sushi nearby for a couple rolls with our pals Summer and Patrick, who are also recently engaged. Lots to celebrate these days!

Have you jumped on the pillow at Taves? I have and now it’s your turn as anniversary celebrations take place in Abbotsford on  September 12-13 at Taves.  There’s 25% off guest admissions, entertainment, free pumpkins, and much more!

For 25 years, guests have come to the Applebarn for a family-fun experience that reminds them of days gone by.  In more recent years, the local food movement has also increased interest for people to see where their food comes from.  Parents bring their kids, friends and family pick apples together, students participate in field trips and colleagues take a break from their busy workday.

We invite everyone to come out to the Applebarn and experience a ‘taste of the country’, says Loren and Corinne Taves.
