Weekly Goods – Fish Fights, Fish Sales and More

Events this week and on the Horizon

New(ish) for this week we are switching “What’s Good Week of” (because that title was kind of silly) to “Weekly Goods”. Each week (well most weeks) we will bring you what’s up for the week, a couple good things on the Horizon, and perhaps a few other good things. Does this sound too much like Martha Stewart’s “It’s good thing”?

Quirky Wines at Burdock & Co

Burdock2If you’ve ever wanted to try some interesting Italian Tipples now’s your chance as Chef Andrea Carlson hosts Matt Sherlock of Sedimentary Wines on March 24, 2014 to guide guests off the well-worn path of red and white to explore the world of orange wines. Orange wines are created using ancient traditional techniques not commonly used in modern times; in a method usually reserved for red wines, white grapes are macerated and allowed to sit in their skins for a fortnight or more, resulting in wines with complex flavour, rich texture and glowing with a warm copper hue.

20 seats are available for this extraordinary evening. Interested parties are encouraged to act quickly to reserve a seat. Tickets are $130 per person including tax and gratuity.

To find out more or make a reservation, please call Burdock & Co at 604-879-0077 or purchase online.

ABOUT BURDOCK & CO
Burdock & Co serves refined dishes crafted from organic ingredients. Chef Andrea Carlson’s relationship with local suppliers ensures that only the best arrives at the table, whether sourced from one of Vancouver’s nearby farms or a downtown urban garden.

In keeping with its rough-and-refined theme, seating includes a communal table where diners are welcome to converse with neighbours as they enjoy Chef Andrea’s polished, approachable dishes. Burdock’s vegetable-focused share-plate menu changes frequently to reflect seasonal availability of ingredients. A careful selection of naturalist wines from France and Italy, along with craft beers and bespoke cocktails round out the menu.

Outstanding in the Field

outstandingSunday July 14, 2013 – North Arm Farm, Pemberton, BC PRICE: $190.00

HOST FARMERS: Jordan & Trish Sturdy, North Arm Farm

GUEST CHEF: Andrea Carlson, Burdock & Co & Harvest Community Foods, Vancouver

TIME: 3 PM

This may be the most beautiful farm we have ever been to. The snow-capped summit of Mount Curry towers right over the table. Diners sometimes change seats to have equal time with the view. North Arm farmer Jordan Sturdy is mayor of the nearby town of Pemberton (close to Whistler). He raises a great variety of certified organic crops including popular u-pick strawberries and raspberries.

Our guest chef this time will be Andrea Carlson, formerly of Bishop’s. A veteran of two past OITF events, Andrea is opening her own restaurant in a couple of weeks – Burdock & Co. in the up-and-coming Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Vancouver.
