What’s Good March 14 – What to do In Vancouver This Week

Vancouver Events This Week

Hard to believe we are half into March! C’mon cherry blosoms! But I think I boringly say it’s always hard to believe we are at “some particular date”, as time tends to fly by for me every day. I should try a better intro. However, back to the weather, it’s a little warmer out this week, although by the weekend it looks like temperature may cool. At least there’s not constant rain in the city so you can get out for a walk or two.  I’m doing a long run Sunday morning so say a little prayer! Here’s some suggestions to keep you occupied this week while we’re waiting for those blossoms!

NoFilter Crushes the LOL of TMI

Starting March 2, late Thursday nights at The Improv Centre on Granville Island are going to be ‘so lit.’ #NoFilter, Vancouver TheatreSports’ newest show, uses the spontaneity of improv comedy to delve into our fleeting, over-shared digital world. From Snapchat to Instagram, Weibo to Facebook and everything in between, #NoFilter finds the fun and funny in how much we share about ourselves with nearly total strangers.

This is a very interactive show, where live-stream social media (projected on the theatre’s giant screen) will be used along with audience suggestions (verbal, texted or tweeted) to drive the action.

#NoFilter plays every Thursday evening at 9:15 pm at The Improv Centre, 1502 Duranleau Street on Granville Island. It replaces OK Tinder which has moved from Thursday nights to the 11:15 pm time slot on Fridays and Saturdays. Show details and tickets vtsl.com.

BEER LOVERS have something to celebrate with the opening of CRAFT

CRAFT 6On November 7 CRAFT BEER MARKET RESTAURANT + BAR  “Where everything’s on tap” opened their doors.

Located on 1st Avenue in the Olympic Village neighbourhood and housed in the historic SALT Building this purveyor of 140 beverages on tap is sure to be a big hit.

The restaurant is impressive in stature. Seating up to 480 patrons when including the mezzanine and the private dining room for up to 25. In summertime add another 50 seats on the outdoor deck.

The design and layout keep the space in perspective with seating areas dispersed about the main floor. Patrons have a choice between sitting at the bar, or in comfortable banquettes, high toppers, booths, and tables.

CRAFT 3

The keg room is an engineering marvel with almost 4 km of stainless steel and piping that delivers cold brews directly to the massive bar that sits in the center of the CRAFT BEER MARKET RESTAURANT + BAR.

I suspect that CRAFT BEER MARKET RESTAURANT + BAR will prove to be very popular with a diverse clientele from guys or girls night out to family friendly diners it is sure to please.

Featuring an excellent selection of local micro beer and imported beers that are also available as a flight that will change weekly. Brews aren’t the only thing on tap you will also find 10 white wines and 10 red wines.

CRAFT 4CRAFT 5

The menu is extensive and would satisfy almost any appetite.  Most of the menu items are sourced locally with an eye to quality and what is in season with changing daily features. The evening I spent at CRAFT BEER MARKET RESTAURANT + BAR the food was excellent. Some of my favourites were the Tuna Poke, Thai Curry Saltspring Island Mussels, Crab Cake Sliders, and the Proscuitto Arugula Flat Bread.

Check them out in person at 85 East 1st Avenue or online at vancouver.craftbeermarket.ca
