THE GLOWBAL COLLECTION of Restaurants Plans Splashy Opening for Its Biggest and Boldest Project Yet: the New COAST Restaurant and O Lounge in Downtown Vancouver.
Emad Yacoub and Shannon Bosa Yacoub, owners of THE GLOWBAL COLLECTION of Restaurants announce:
• the company’s popular Yaletown seafood restaurant COAST is relocating to a newly designed, soaring 7,000 square-foot space in downtown Vancouver; and
• the company debuts O Lounge in an adjacent 1,200 square-foot space.
On Friday, July 10, COAST Restaurant and O Lounge open at 1054 Alberni Street. Josh Wolfe is Executive Chef and Jan Erik Wichmann is General Manager.
“With a back-to-basics seafood menu, COAST will showcase the best quality seafood served with classic style,” says proprietor, Emad Yacoub. “This is a place where diners can slurp icy oysters, crack into a crab claw and savour a rich chowder, along with a crisp glass of wine or a nice, chilled beer.”
Executive Chef Josh Wolfe can capture his approach in one word: dramatic. “Guests will enjoy oysters still dripping with saltwater. Chowders are prepared in front of them. Our Sushi Chef creates something magical before their eyes.”
At the 24-seat ‘Oyster & Chowder Bar’, Atlantic and Pacific COAST oysters will be shucked along with signature dishes like Dungeness crab cakes, seafood platters, lobsters, chowders and sushi. Landlubbers may select juicy cuts of Triple A Canadian Prime beef. A well balanced wine list features 100 wines under $100, stocked full of Pacific Northwest gems.
THE GLOWBAL COLLECTION attracts an energetic and uniquely Vancouver crowd. Known for its playful buzz, COAST will continue its legacy as a place to remember and return to often.
“Clever and inviting design contribute to our signature vibe,” says Yacoub. “And this room is a soulful stunner.”
The expansive space features a clean, contemporary design by Vancouver’s BOX Interior Design. Deep turquoise tones, mosaic-tile floors and lush leather banquettes define a breathtaking, new Vancouver aesthetic and extends a respectful nod to historic San Francisco, home to the world’s most iconic seafood eateries.
The COAST entry welcomes guests through a street-side lounge bordered by fire pits. Doubling the former restaurant’s capacity, the top level seats 120 and the main level seats 125, including a dramatic 20-foot circular ‘Oyster & Chowder Bar’. Beyond, guests will be drawn to a warm and intimate mezzanine featuring a signature ‘Boardroom Table’ and a private dining space.
In addition, O Lounge opens, destined to bustle. Here guests can sip house cocktails, survey the crowd and enjoy the full menu from COAST until midnight. O features an intimate split-level room seating 70, with plush, tangerine mid-rise sofas and sultry back-lit columns.
COAST is open Monday through Friday, 11:30 am to 12:00 am; Saturday and Sunday 4:00 pm to 12:00 am. Please call 604.685.5010 for reservations.
The Edge Social Grille and Lounge opens

FROM – The Edge
Officially open this weekend (July 3rd), The Edge Social Grille & Lounge is the newest arrival on downtown Granville Street proving that Vancouver businesses are embracing this revived neighbourhood. Promising to become a major destination, this large, modern yet comfortable room is by Nigel Walker of Nigel Walker & Associates who was asked to design a “one-off” room for a unique look in a city of so many casual-fine-dining big boxes. The room is separated into a casual front lounge, bar, back dining room with booths, front dining room and two private rooms. The jewel in the crown on this Granville and Helmcken corner is a 100 seat patio running along the front of the restaurant set deep into the large street front courtyard, the only major dining patio on Granville Street.
Open for lunch, brunch, dinner and late night dining, the menu items include patio fare such as local Albacore tuna salade Niçoise; chopped chicken cobb or a grilled prosciutto and brie sandwich on sourdough with fig jam and basil mayonnaise. Comfort foods include truffled mac and cheese; house ground beef burger with apple wood smoked cheddar; roasted free- run chicken and flat breads – a selection of free formed freshly baked pizzas. The Asian flavours that Vancouverites and visitors crave are offered through five wok dishes that include squid, shrimp, bbq pork and prawns. The menu is varied, with a selection designed for diners who return often, and of course, sustainability and local products are a priority when choosing ingredients. No giant purchasing department here, just one restaurant with chefs that work one-on-one with suppliers committed to superior products.
The people behind The Edge Social Grille and Lounge are a blend of seasoned professionals, astute business people and young guns. Owner Amir Virani is a successful hands-on Hotelier. He has overseen the building of the restaurant but leaves the operations to James Drummond. Drummond, a 20 year industry vet has run some of Vancouver´s leading restaurants as General Manager of Earl´s, Sandbar and Cardero’s as well as a consultant to the hospitality trade. Alongside James is David Sarich. American Express service recipient, David’s background includes Glowbal, Coast, Lift, RedxRed and G Sports Bar and Grill. In the kitchen cooking is Travis Rea, our young gun whose background includes small restaurants and bistros as well as seven years as head chef for Milestones. Behind the scenes is Executive Chef Glen Zoteck, former chef instructor at VCC, Executive Chef for the Spectra Group and consulting chef throughout California and Asia. And marketing – not just about knowing how to market, it’s about knowing your market and for that Jill Wiersma steps into the picture. With a background that includes work with smaller independent companies, Jill’s hands-on style means she really gets to know her market. Together they have put together a team of support staff from assistant managers, to cooks and servers that will be the best trained staff in the city.
Downtown Granville Street has had more than a fresh coat of paint recently; it’s been taken apart, polished and put back together with street scaping, green space, triple wide sidewalks and heritage lighting, not to mention an underground transportation system that crosses it and The Edge Social Grille and Lounge is right in the center of the action. Surrounded by Yaletown, the Financial and Entertainment District, The Edge is expected to be the perfect spot for Vancouverites and visitors dining and entertaining needs, and with the large courtyard adjacent to the patio, a perfect spot to take in the atmosphere of the city on downtown Granville Street.
The Name: The Edge Social Grille and Lounge, a registered and title searched name. The Edge – that name is not a particularly unique one, and as we are finding out there are a number of restaurants and bars in North America that use “Edge” as part of their name, but it is descriptive of so many things and we feel great about using it. Granville Street is on The Edge of becoming one of the “Best Streets in North America”*. Granville and Helmcken is on The Edge of Yaletown and the entertainment district. This part of Granville Street has a bit of an Edge with later hours, nightclubs and live venues. The Edge Social Grille and Lounge, a restaurant that is on The Edge of fine dining, on The Edge of casual dining. Grille and lounge, our “Liquor primary” licence gives us The Edge with later hours and more freedom to serve as a cocktail lounge in off peak dining hours and finally,…offering the best casual fine dining service in Vancouver gives us an Edge.
*“Best Streets in North America” – The City of Vancouver is working to re-establish the status of Granville Street as one of Vancouver’s Great Streets based on the definition of a Great Street which author Allan Jacobs provides in his classic book Great Streets

BRUNCH GOES ITALIAN
The search is over. Lower Main has a hot new weekend brunch spot. Campagnolo Restaurant, opened by award-winning Fuel Restaurant team Tom Doughty, Robert Belcham and Tim Pittman, debuts its Italian-inspired brunch menu on Saturday, June 20th.
“We’re excited to offer the neighbourhood’s residents—and those who come to play in the area—something fresh and satisfying for weekend brunch, Italian-style,” says Pittman.
Campagnolo’s warm and inviting open-seat dining room and wine bar make it a delightful place to linger over weekend brunch. Singles can cozy up to the bar—just as friendly as Fuel’s—and groups of any size fit in the buzzing dining room. Quick, casual and comfortable, Campagnolo works for everyone. Brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30am – 2:30pm.
The menu reflects Executive Chef Robert Belcham and Chef de Cuisine Alvin Pillay’s commitment to using only the finest ingredients in simple, authentic dishes. The brunch menu offers an Italian twist on the traditional breakfast. Dishes include pancetta frittata with spinach and goat cheese; sunny-side-up eggs with salsiccia and salsa verde; braised pork belly crespelle with mushroom cream; panettone budino with lemon marmellata; and a selection of specialty Italian Caffè, including espresso, americano and cappuccino.
Campagnolo buzzes with activity and laughter. Though spacious and open, the atmosphere is warm and intimate in the 65-seat open dining room and beautiful, 25-seat wine bar. Campagnolo serves affordable, casual Italian dining in a warm and welcoming space. Campagnolo is open for lunch Monday to Friday from 11:30am – 2:30pm, brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11:30am – 2:30pm and dinner nightly from 5pm.
