Edible BC’s new store at The Bay

After nearly four years of incredible success at our Granville Island Retail location, Edible British Columbia is opening a satellite store in downtown Vancouver’s historic Hudson Bay store.  On Saturday, November 7, 2009, EBC will open at HBC, with a mini retail space showcasing our top 100 products from across BC, plus some favourites from our brand new Edible Canada line.

Becoming a part of The Hudson Bay Company, especially leading into the Olympic Winter Games, is certainly an honour, according to Edible British Columbia founder and president, Eric Pateman.  “HBC is the oldest commercial corporation in North America and is one of the oldest in the world, incorporated in 1670. And with VANOC opening an Olympic Superstore in the downtown Vancouver Bay, the attention and traffic over the next year will be outstanding – not only for Edible BC, but for all the small artisan culinary producers that we’ll be highlighting.”

The Edible BC satellite store will be located on the food floor, beside the Nespresso Boutique.  The retail space will be staffed by The Bay employees, and while tours and events cannot be booked at this location, brochures and information about all of EBC’s culinary events will be available.  Shoppers will also be able to purchase EBC’s popular culinary gift baskets – perfect for the foodie on your list.

The EBC space also includes a full professional demo kitchen, where we will welcome ongoing tastings and demonstrations by local producers.  The confirmed schedule for the next few weeks is as follows (11am-3pm):

Saturday, November 7 – Little Miss Chief (Okanagan)
Saturday, November 14 – Aji Sauces (Fraser Valley)
Saturday, November 21 – 49 Degree Organic Sauces (Vancouver)
Saturday, November 28 – Fraser Valley Gourmet (Fraser Valley)
Saturday, December 5 – Nonna Pia Balsamic Reductions (Whistler)

Edible BC Market Dinner

On Tuesday, November 10th, we are very excited to have Chef Afke Zonderland join us for our next Cooking with BC’s Best Market Dinner.  And this evening is an EBC first – a gourmet, Raw Food Feast!

Afke exchanged her creative talent as kitchen designer for a chef’s jacket two years ago. Her passion for gourmet vegetarian food and a desire for abundant health naturally led her towards eating more un-cooked food.  She is the creator behind the popular Krumbleez and Krackleez brands and continuously amazes participants in her Raw Gourmet workshops with how satisfying, filling and delicious Fresh, Living Food really is.  Afke’s understanding of the value of eating, organically grown, minimally processed edibles forms the foundation of extraordinary beverages, meals and guilt free desserts. Her sincere enthusiasm to prepare and enjoy “the best food ever” is contagious.

Our demonstration-style Market Dinners take place in Granville Island, after hours, and allow you the unique opportunity to watch the chef prepare five seasonally-inspired courses in our open kitchen, right before your eyes.  Enjoy your dinner with sommelier-selected wines from BC’s top wineries.

Afke has generously previewed her menu for us – yum!
