Weekly Goods – Fish Fights, Fish Sales and More

Events this week and on the Horizon

New(ish) for this week we are switching “What’s Good Week of” (because that title was kind of silly) to “Weekly Goods”. Each week (well most weeks) we will bring you what’s up for the week, a couple good things on the Horizon, and perhaps a few other good things. Does this sound too much like Martha Stewart’s “It’s good thing”?

Tuesday October 25 Chefs FISH FIGHT

Long time friends and Vancouver vetrans, Chef Andrea Carlson and Chef Robert Belcham, team up together to bring you FISH FIGHT! An Ocean-forward, collaborative dinner, focused on the bounty of our beautiful BC waters all with naturalist wine pairings. To avoid Eventbrite fees, please call the restaurant to purchase tickets – 604.879.0077

Taste of Yaletown Breaks All Records for Community Attention and Largest Donation to Help Fight Hunger in Vancouver

The Yaletown Business Improvement Association (YBIA) announces another record breaking year for Taste of Yaletown. The 6th Annual Taste of Yaletown included 25 restaurants that offered guests fixed-price menus and raised $12,000 in support of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

“Since the event began six years ago, Taste of Yaletown has raised over $100,000 in support of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank,” says Annette O’Shea, Executive Director of the Yaletown Business Improvement Association. “We are delighted to support our surrounding communities and hope that our contribution will make a difference for the families that rely on the Food Bank.”

Taste of Yaletown is a community based event organized by the YBIA each October to showcase the dining diversity in the stylish and trendy neighborhood. During the event, Yaletown’s best restaurants offer $25, $35 and $45 three-course menus, giving the public a chance to try something new for an attractive price. The event draws significant support and attendance year after year, making it one of the most popular events in the city.

Showing momentous growth, the 2010 event proved to be the best to date, as Taste of Yaletown 2010 broke all previous records including:

  • Highest restaurant participation
  • Highest donation to Greater Vancouver Food Bank from participating restaurants
  • Highest public attendance and interest
  • Record social media engagement and interaction
  • Record media support and coverage
  • Increased community integration

This year, the YBIA also donated $10,000 in taxi vouchers to participating restaurants to distribute to guests. This generous donation was put in place to ensure that diners can enjoy the Taste of Yaletown experience and get home safely after strict drinking and driving rules were put in place in BC.

“It is truly incredible to see that Taste of Yaletown has become a destination for the public and that each year the event really does get bigger and better,” comments O’Shea.
