I first fell for Seattle after watching the movie ‘Singles’ in my University days. I was charmed by the characters, and wanted to know more about the city where grunge and coffee culture ruled. I’d go down to catch a band or shop, but recently my visits have begun to focus more on the culinary scene that Seattle is now known for. While entire books have been devoted to the subject, I merely offer up a few suggestions for interested foodies on their next trip down.

To Stay

The Hotel Vintage Park is a must for any wine lover. Not only does each hotel room have a Washington State winery theme, there are daily wine tastings in the lobby complete with a visit from the winemaker. The hotel is central and affordable and the rooms are fashionable and roomy. This is a Kimpton property and in Kimpton style you’ll find the service friendly and the concierge knowledgeable. Bonus – This summer the hotel offers an insider’s tour of nearby Woodinville Wine Country, led by Sommelier and wine educator David LeClaire. The package includes overnight accommodations for two, a tour of local wineries and wine tastings, and town car transportation to and from the wineries. July 26 (US$621) and August 23 for (US$601) www.hotelvintagepark.com

Pike Place Market is a pleasant stroll from your hotel and is full of everything fresh from fish to flowers. Don’t miss the show the fish monger puts on, or a chance to enjoy a drink and the view from many of the markets restaurants. www.pikeplacemarket.org
