Sprucing Up At The Glamoury

Looking For A One Stop Shop For Make Up and Hair? The Glamoury Delivers On Glam!

Over the years I have got a bit better at make up application and hair doing, but it’s not really my forte. I really do need serious help in this department and was super excited to discover a new one stop shop for hair and make-up right in Yaletown, The Glamoury.

The Glamoury

The Glamoury

The room is gorgeous, lavish decorated NS designed by Ste Marie (Homer Street Cafe, Meat and Bread, Savio Volpe). Creative design firm Glasfurd & Walker (Meat and Bread, Wilfred, Boboli) led all creative direction for The Glamoury with both firms collaborating to create a space which blends art deco with a contemporary aesthetic.

The Glamoury

The ladies at the Glamoury can produce a plethora of looks for you, whether you want to go with a look that’s all “Bardot” all about the smoky with the “Smoke Show” or are “All About the Lips”. The are many looks to choose from and of course the stylists will then personalize for you.

The Glamoury

I NEED HELP!

The Glamoury

GETTING THERE!

The Glamoury

VOILA! GLAM!

Once you’ve slipped into your satin robe you fill out an experience card allowing you to tailor the experience. Are you in the mode for peace and quiet, or do you want to chat? They review look options and the team magically transports you to a more Glamorous time.

The Glamoury

The owner, AJ Woodworth,  has assembled a knock-out team from from Vancouver’s top beauty talent who have worked with brands including Charlotte Tilbury and NARS. She also created a house line of Glamoury makeup that is made in Canada, and The Glamoury’s makeup kits are a mix of industry picks such as MAC, Makeup Forever, Anastasia, and NARS.

Signature offerings at The Glamoury include a full 45-minute makeup application and specialty blow out. Also available are a range of touch up services for both hair and makeup.

The Glamoury is open from 7 a.m. until late and on weekends from 10 a.m. until late.

Brunch at Wildtale

Where to Brunch in Vancouver? We suggest Brunch at Wildtale

I’d love to go for brunch every weekend, but unfortunately I seem to be stuck in front of my computer far too often eating leftovers or toast with peanut butter and pickles; an odd combo but a good one. Once in a while I do get to go out for a treat, and I must say this day was pretty cool, as I got my hair done and I had an amaze meal.

Blo

First up, thanks to Blo for my blow-out. I went for the Victory Rolls again. I love my hair when it’s straight and not the usual crazy curls.

Then off to Wildtale to meet up with some pals for a media brunch. Wildtale opened last spring and is owned by John Crook and Erik Heck, restaurants veterans and owners of Flying Pig. (Brunch is great here too, check out my post here). The restaurant is heavy on the seafood with a bit of a southern touch.

You might go for a Caesar, but I opted to sample a Fresh Start, a smoothie made from green apple, fennel, honeydew, kale and lime. Can’t have booze all day every day. Believe me, it’s not good.

Wildtale Brunch

As the official pork ambassador for BC and Alberta Pork,  I of course had to sample the Maple Glazed Bacon with rosemary and thyme syrup.

Wildtale Brunch

Wildtale Brunch

I chose a Chopped Salad as well as the Oyster Po’ Boy, since we were sharing so I didn’t have to take on the whole dishes myself. The salad was a tasty combo of veggies, cheese and shrimp, and the Po’ Boy was plush with those crispy deep fired oysters I love, with plenty of tartar sauce and a ton of wonderful fries.

Wildtale Brunch

I also had to have the baked oysters, and was super pleased I made that choice. Never enough oysters, I say.

Wildtale Brunch

Wildtale Brunch

Wildtale Brunch\Wildtale Brunch

Others ordered up Crab Benny, Fried Beefsteak Tomatoes with basil aioli, chicken and waffles and a smoked salmon benny on a perfect pan-fried potato rosti and there was a definitely generally consensus that the kitchen was on its brunch game.

Wildtale Brunch

Some wacko also thought we should have dessert, but I thought I’d burst if I had anything more. I remember when I was scolded by an editor when I went to a restaurant to review it, and didn’t sample the desserts, but this is my site now, so I can do whatever I want. Right? :o) In any case you can see they have some wonderful items on the sweets side, and I do remember having an amazing banana cream pie here last spring; click for that write up is here.

WildTale Coastal Grill

I first visited WildTale this spring and have since recommended the restaurant many times. Super fresh seafood, a good selection of oysters and a bright coastal feel make for a great meal.  There’s a semi-private space for groups of up to eighteen, and a private wine room with 34 seats, and I am always being asked about “private rooms”.

WildTale Coastal Grill

Vancouverites John Crook and Erik Heck are the co-owners of WildTale, they also own all locations of the very succesful Flying Pig. The menu is seafood-focused, and sources heavily from our West Coast, but also had items from the Atlantic and some meaty options such as the Peace River Bison Ribye Burger at lunch or the Lamb Shank at dinner.

A recent lunch was a leisurely one, and we sampled fresh oysters, flavourful mussels, some tender humboldt shrimp, the deep fried oysters and some perfectly seared scallops.img 0603img 0596

For dinner the grilled fish of the day is always a good choice and desserts are a must, do not miss the banana cream pie.

There are 100 seats inside and 50 seats on the heated patio, as well as bar seating should you wish to stop by for a quick drink.

lobster

Recently WildTale added Sunday Lobster Suppers that begin with seafood chowder and freshly baked rolls, P.E.I. mussels, farmer’s salads and fresh steamed lobster. For dessert, select from a freshly baked pie, mixed berry shortcake, chocolate mousse or ice cream.

4 cloves garlic crushed
4 sprigs fresh oregano
6 sprigs fresh thyme

In a heavy bottomed skillet or pot heat vegetable oil and place chicken skin side down and place pancetta in open areas in pot with the chicken.
