The American Bar at The Savoy Hotel pops up in Vancouver on Tuesday

The American Bar at The Savoy Hotel in London is one of the most iconic hotel bars in the world. Founded at the turn of the 20th century and named for the “American” drink style, now known as the cocktail, it’s no surprise that The American Bar has been vital part of the development of the art and craft of the cocktail.

For over a century, The American Bar has been known not just for its classic cocktail but for having some of the most finest and most creative bartenders in the history of the profession. Early American Bar icons include Ada Coleman, who took the bar over in 1903 and created the original Hanky Panky cocktail, and Harry Craddock who compiled the legendary Savoy Cocktail Book, still regarded as an essential reference for bartenders.

More recently, the bar has been led by 2010 Diageo World Class winner Erik Lorincz who was also awarded the Best International Bartender at 2011 Tales of The Cocktail, and accepted the World’s Best Hotel Bar for the Savoy Hotel at the same event.
