What’s Good This Week – October 17 Edition

Events and Happenings In and Around Vancouver

It’s supposed to be slower in the fall, but so many businesses take advantage of the pre-Christmas season that it’s chock full of possibilities. We covered the David Foster concert here and even have a giveaway – Steve Tyler and the Tenors are performing! We’ll be at Superhuman on Saturday (similar to Ted X Talks) and more information is here. Wednesday dine out and give back with Restaurants for Change, there’s a Ferment Festival in Town on Sunday (no booze this time, but lots of other goodies) Friday night is Toast to The Coast at the Vancouver Aquarium, Cirque is back in town and Theatresports Improv has a Star Wars Theme.

Restaurants for Change

How it works: It’s easy! You make a dinner reservation at a participating restaurant on Oct. 18, 2017, and go out to eat that night. The restaurant will donate from 50% to 100% of total food sales from dinner service to support community food programs in low-income neighbourhoods. Voilà! That’s how you dine out to do good. In Vancouver – Burdock and Co., Farmer’s Apprentice and JamJar!

Restaurants for Change is an annual fundraising event that brings together some of Canada’s best restaurants to raise money in support of community food programs across Canada.  Since 2014, Restaurants for Change has raised close to $600,000 for empowering programs that provide access to healthy food, and build better health, skills, and belonging. Make your dinner reservation today and make a difference in the lives of Canadians who are struggling with food insecurity and poverty.

Ferment Fest Vancouver – Sunday October 22, 2017 – $3 at the door 1 Athletes Way 12-5pm

Once you discover the taste and health benefits of fermented foods, you find yourself becoming an ambassador for it. How is the rest of the world not as deeply in love with such a fascinating and historical process as you are? Many of our food buddies felt the same and decided the only way to teach our communities about the art of fermentation is through feasting! Join us for an afternoon of fermented sampling and discovery, and prepare to join the fermented foods cheer team! More here.

Improv Wars: The Laugh Jedi at Vancouver Theatresports

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… there’s still no affordable housing in Lotus Land of the West, tourists continue to flock to the small island in False Creek, the Evil Emperor plots his return and the improvisers strike back. Episode X. VTSL takes you to a universe that exists outside of normal time and space – where unlikely characters co-exist in Improv Wars: The Laugh Jedi running Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. from October 5 – November 18. Check out Artistic Associate Bill Pozzobon’s attempts to answer a series of Star Wars  trivia questions. To paraphrase Yoda – “Laugh. Or do not. There is no titter.”  May the Farce be with you.
