Hailed as Vancouver\u2019s \u2018Best Pizzeria\u2019 (<em style=\"font-size: 13px;line-height: 19px\">Vancouver Magazine Awards<\/em>, <em style=\"font-size: 13px;line-height: 19px\">WestEnder<\/em>, <em style=\"font-size: 13px;line-height: 19px\">Georgia Straight<\/em>), Nicli continues the century-old tradition of creating Neapolitan pizzas the proper way \u2013 by hand and using\u00a0only the best seasonal ingredients. An early leader in the craft-beer movement, Unibroue has gained Canada-wide recognition for its \u2018on the lees\u2019 Belgian-style of beer.<\/p>\n<p>Nicli\u2019s Chef Dave Tozer has created a five-course dinner that is sure to incite praise \u2013 be it in Italian (\u2018splendido,\u2019 \u2018fantastico\u2019), French (\u2018magifique,&#8217; &#8216;formidable\u2019) or \u2018Foodie (\u2018yum\u2019). The menu features four pizzas plus dessert &#8211; each course carefully paired with one of Unibroue\u2019s distinctive brews. The dinner is value-priced at $45 \u2013 a good bargain in any language.<\/p>\n<p>First course starts gently with an EVOO-based\u00a0pizza of Pecorino Romano, goat cheese, heirloom tomatoes and\u00a0arugula napped with a balsamic reduction. This has been paired with Unibroue\u2019s <em>Blanche de Chambly<\/em>, a delicate wheat beer that will subtly complement the pizza\u2019s garden-fresh flavour.<\/p>\n<p>Second course pizza features caramelized onions, fresh thyme, fennel sausage with PEI smoked cheddar. This has been paired with <em>Eph\u00e9m\u00e8re Apple <\/em>with its delicate balance of sweet and tart undertones and Granny Smith profile.<\/p>\n<p>Unibroue\u2019s golden ale, <em>Fin du Monde<\/em>, is the brew of choice to complement Chef Tozer\u2019s pizza highlighting late-summer ingredients &#8211; roasted local corn, zucchini and organic grass-fed strip loin with grana padano and fiore de latte finished with an arugula and gorgonzola fondue drizzle. Just the description of this pizza should make your mouth water.<\/p>\n<p>The final pizza of the dinner features the robust flavours of sopressata combined with roasted chilies, tomato sauce, pecorino romano, oregano and fresh basil finished with chili-infused EVOO.\u00a0 It is paired with an equally robust beer, Unibroue\u2019s multi-award-winning <em>Maudite <\/em>\u2013 a flavourful amber-red ale with an assertive crisp finish.<\/p>\n<p>Stone fruit cobbler accompanied by vanilla bean gelato ends the evening on a sweet finish. Beer with dessert? \u2018Mais oui\u2019 say the French contingent and the Italians concur &#8216;naturalmente,&#8217; as <em>Eph\u00e9m\u00e8re Cherry,<\/em> with its refreshing taste reminiscent of a dry ros\u00e9 with cherry undertones, provides the perfect flavour counterpoint to the cobbler\u2019s fruit.<\/p>\n<p>The dinner starts at 8:30 p.m. Unibroue\u2019s Kelsey Atkinson will be in attendance to talk about the pairings and the beers. The very reasonable price of $45 per person includes the meal, the pairings, tax and gratuity.
