Un th\u00e8me qui est \u00e9videmment tr\u00e8s proche du c\u0153ur des Canadiens;\u201d \u201cC\u2019est un livre d\u2019art\u201d- Le jury<\/p>\n<p><strong>TASTE CANADA\/CBC PEOPLE\u2019S CHOICE AWARD<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Taste Canada\/CBC People\u2019s Choice Award was run as a contest at cbc.ca\/books for three weeks, and offered the public a chance to vote for their favourite book on the Taste Canada shortlist, and win great prizes, including kitchen equipment from Zwilling J.A. Henckels, and cookbooks. \u00a0\u00a0Thousands of entries later,\u00a0<em>The Vegetarian\u2019s Complete Quinoa Cookbook<\/em>\u00a0by Mairlyn Smith, ed. and the Ontario Home Economics Association was announced as this year\u2019s winner by Gill Deacon of CBC Radio\u2019s Here and Now.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>TASTE CANADA HALL OF FAME<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ELIZABETH BAIRD:\u00a0 Elizabeth Baird\u2019s distinguished career in food began with an invitation from publisher James Lorimer to write a book about Canadian cooking.\u00a0<em>Classic Canadian Cooking<\/em>, published in 1974, was her entr\u00e9e into food writing.\u00a0 She went on to work at various newspapers, but it was her work as food editor of Canadian Living Magazine \u2013 for 20 years \u2013 that truly made her a household name.\u00a0 Along with magazines, there were other opportunities in radio and television \u2013 especially Canadian Living Cooks on the Food Network.\u00a0 And then there were cookbooks, over 30 of them in all, most notably\u00a0<em>The Complete Canadian Living Cookbook.<\/em>\u00a0Elizabeth is the recipient of numerous awards and honours including the Founder\u2019s Award from Cuisine Canada, a National Magazine Award, a Silver Ladle from the Toronto Culinary Guild, and she was also named the Women\u2019s Culinary Network\u2019s Woman of the Year. Most recently, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.<\/p>\n<p>POSTHUMOUS INDUCTEES<\/p>\n<p>M\u00c8RE EM\u00c9LIE CARON \u2013 1808-1888<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e8re Em\u00e9lie Caron is a prominent example of the many 19th-century women in religious orders who devoted themselves to feeding the poor with nutritious and tasty foods. She was the second mother superior of the Sisters of Providence, and hers is the only name officially attached to\u00a0<em>Directions diverses<\/em>, a cookbook that was originally prepared for use at the sisters\u2019 Mother House and subsequently became a standard kitchen reference at many of Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s Catholic institutions. First published in 1878,\u00a0<em>Directions diverses<\/em>\u00a0prompted eight editions up to 1913. Its recipes reflect the culinary tastes of the time, with the inclusion of English and American as well as French and traditional Qu\u00e9becois foods<\/p>\n<p>HELEN GOUGEON \u2013 1924-2000<\/p>\n<p>Ottawa-born Helen Gougeon was a cookbook author, food journalist, and radio and television personality who was best known as an early advocate of ethnic cuisine in Canada and an enthusiastic promoter of regional Canadian cooking. Gougeon\u2019s pioneering\u00a0<em>Cooking\u2026with an Accent<\/em>\u00a0(1946) fostered Canadian interest in ethnic recipes long before the multi-cultural movement made this fashionable. She made Canadian regional cuisine accessible on a national scale by publishing recipes in her newspaper columns that had previously been known mostly through community cookbooks. Gougeon\u2019s columns on cooking appeared in Canadian Living, the Montreal Gazette, the Montreal Standard, the Ottawa Journal and Weekend Magazine.
