\"farm<\/a>Beginning today, the freshness of the farm comes direct\u00a0to the city as FarmCity Fresh Cart<\/a> makes its debut on the streets of downtown Vancouver\u00a0and New Westminster.<\/p>\n

FarmCity Fresh Cart \u2014 a partnership between\u00a0Re-Up BBQ<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0FarmCity Co-op<\/a>\u00a0(24\u00a0Avenue Farm, Barefoot Farms, Cherry Lane Farm, Earth Apple Farm, Farmers on 57th, Giddy Up and Grow, Urban Digs Farm and Urban Edibles)\u00a0\u2014 is\u00a0a\u00a0groundbreaking, farmers\u2019 market-inspired kiosk featuring an ever-changing bounty of local, sustainably farmed fruit and produce as well as products and snacks prepared by local\u00a0businesses.<\/p>\n

Besides a veritable cornucopia of fruit and vegetables available in both bulk and pre-packaged portions, FarmCity Fresh Cart\u00a0offers pastured eggs, local honey, preserves, sodas made from locally farmed fruit and an assortment of snacks and salads. Visitors will also be able to purchase take-home products\u00a0such as bacon and cured meat from Re-Up BBQ<\/a>, cocktail bitters and culinary extracts from Bittered Sling<\/a>, seeds and merchandise from Victory Gardens<\/a>, artisan pasta from Pasta Famiglia<\/a> and cold-pressed juice from SPUD<\/a>, as well as meat and deli products from pastured animals, prepared by local chefs.<\/p>\n

\u201cFarmCity Fresh Cart is an innovative, grassroots means of nurturing and growing a network that links\u00a0urban farms with local restaurants and consumers,\u201d says Re-up BBQ co-partner Lindsay Kaisaris. \u201cWe\u2019re excited for the collaboration that the Fresh Cart brings \u2014 we\u2019re\u00a0able to pool crucial resources to help generate profits and exposure for local farmers and small businesses that may not have had the same opportunity on their own.\u201d
\nFarmCity Fresh Cart will regularly appear at the following locations:<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Corner of Hornby and\u00a0West Georgia Streets in downtown Vancouver, most weekdays from 11\u00a0a.m. to 2 p.m.
\n\u2022 Hyack Square in New Westminster, most weekday evenings from 4 to 6:30 p.m., and on Saturdays<\/p>\n

FarmCity Fresh Cart will also pop up at various summer events and festivals, including the following in New Westminster:<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Key West Ford Show and Shine on Columbia Street, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
\n\u2022 Pecha Kucha Night at Westminster Pier Park, July 19 from 4 to 11 p.m.
\n\u2022 Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Fest, August\u00a023 from 4 to 10 p.m.<\/p>\n

FarmCity Co-op Open House and Fresh Cart Launch:<\/strong>
\nThe public will also have a\u00a0chance to get acquainted with the FarmCity Fresh Cart and meet some of its partners and suppliers on Sunday,\u00a0July 20 from 4 to 10 p.m. <\/strong>when\u00a0Urban Digs Farm<\/a> in South Burnaby hosts an all-ages open house and BBQ with live music and drinks. Tickets and further details are available via Eventbrite<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Together with the \u201cFounding Members\u201d who supported the FarmCity Fresh Cart\u2019s crowdfunding efforts, corporate sponsors including Vancity Credit Union, SPUD, Urban Digs Farm\u00a0and Ferrari Contracting provided the necessary startup funding to make this important project possible.<\/p>\n
