\n<\/span><\/b>First Annual CAPS Competition to Send One Canadian to Compete for \u201cBest Sommelier in the World\u201d in 2015<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers<\/a> (CAPS) in partnership with Association de la Sommellerie Internationale<\/a> (ASI) has named Chambar Restaurant<\/a> Sommelier, Jason Yamasaki<\/a>, \u201cBest Sommelier in BC\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

On November 3, 2014, 14 of the province\u2019s top sommeliers gathered on Vancouver\u2019s Granville Island for a morning of written theory and blind tasting exams. After compiling scores, the group was narrowed down to three candidates: Chambar\u2019s Jason Yamasaki, Unsworth Vineyard\u2019s Chris Turyk, and CinCin\u2019s Shane Taylor. The competition then moved into a tense afternoon of Sommelierie testing including: sparkling and decantation service, food and wine pairing, wine list correction, and verbal blind tasting of 5 beverages. Principal judges, Ontario\u2019s Bruce Wallner MS, Barbara Philip MW, and CAPS BC President, Michelle Bouffard, tabulated the final scores and declared Yamasaki the provincial winner.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to being honored at the 2015 Vancouver International Wine Festival as \u201cBest Sommelier in BC\u201d, Yamasaki will also represent British Columbia in the \u201cBest Sommelier in Canada\u201d competition in Ontario in the spring of 2015, and could potentially represent Canada at the world competition. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
