Art, Culture, Food and Sustainability \u2013 As We Are, Together<\/p>\n

From October 13 until October 25, 2015 Vancouver\u2019s Sustenance Festival<\/a> focuses on making connections in your communities through a series of events focused on food preservation, gardening,\u00a0 and the right to food.<\/p>\n

This festival is city-wide festival and includes everything from food inspired art exhibits to local food workshops on food preparation and gardening, potlucks, talks, walks, and more \u2013 all taking place in community centres and public spaces throughout Vancouver.<\/p>\n

There are almost fifty events in this 7th<\/sup> year of Vancouver Sustenance Festival <\/strong><\/p>\n

UPSTREAM<\/a> Moving Images of Salmon\u2026A collection of local artists\u2019 work <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

October 10 until November 1, 2015 Roundhouse Community Centre Great Hall<\/a><\/p>\n

Over the past few decades many artists and activists on BC\u2019s coast have been moved by the struggle of wild Pacific salmon to healthfully inhabit the waters in and around our now extensively developed urban environment.\u00a0 With\u00a0settlement of the last century, the salmon\u2019s old home streams had disappeared and now lay beneath the buildings and blacktop of major cities like Vancouver.
\nIn this unique and timely exhibit we will explore the questions: what traditional significance did the iconic salmon have to our First Peoples, then and now? How can the humans who live in the salmon\u2019s ancestral home today make the connections between their urban life and the current health of the ocean? And much more!<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>YUMMY!<\/a> A Right to Food Variety Show<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

October 16 Roundhouse Exhibition Hall<\/a> 7pm-9pm (doors open at 6:30pm) Pay-what-you-can<\/p>\n

A wildly entertaining show featuring a variety of fun and cheeky performances centered on the theme of \u201cFood Justice\u201d \u2013 activism no laughing matter?\u00a0 \u00a0Once you are treated to the comedic delights of the hilarious MC and local performers, you just may eat your words!\u00a0 You might even walk away with a deeper understanding of the relationship of food to social justice as it plays out in our communities.\u00a0 This is a social event for people of all ages.\u00a0 Snack, chat, and have fun! And don\u2019t miss the interactive artwork, food-related community info tables and a Demonstration Food Friendly Neighbourhood curated by Village Vancouver with displays, information and chickens!<\/p>\n

RIPE 2015!\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>\u2013 Harvest Celebration Dinner<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

October 18 Roundhouse Community Centre<\/a> 4:00-8:00 PM<\/strong><\/p>\n

The annual RIPE Dinner is a true celebration of the harvest \u2013 a showcase of local ingredients from our farms and producers paired with some of Vancouver\u2019s top chefs and restaurants, including Chef Andrea Carlson of\u00a0Burdock & Co<\/a>, Chef Chris Whittaker of\u00a0Forage<\/a>, Chef Meeru Dhalwala of\u00a0Vij\u2019s Rangoli<\/a>, Chef Ned Bell of\u00a0Yew seafood + bar<\/a>, and Chef Quang Dang of West Restaurant<\/a>. RIPE 2015 will feature\u00a010 unique culinary creation stations<\/strong>,\u00a0craft beverages<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0dessert tastings<\/strong>\u00a0artfully prepared from fresh, seasonal and sustainably harvest food.<\/p>\n

Neighbour Savour features a great lineup of Live Local Music, Community Info Tables, a Kids Area and activities, a Seed Sharing Library and Seed Swap, Emily Carr Collaborative Design Project Display, As We Know It Community Art Project, Loads of delicious food (food from your garden is encouraged), and much more. Bring some food or a non-alcoholic bevvie to share, hang out and meet your neighbours, and have FUN!
