What To Do Around Vancouver This Week<\/h2>\n

It’s the count down to Christmas and we’re almost ready, are you? Yesterday we tripped up to Kelowna to visit the family, and it’ll be pretty low key here for the next few days. It’s extra special because my aunt is visiting from New Zealand and we haven’t seen her for a while and we’re pretty close as she’s closer to my age than my Mom’s. We’ll see my niece and nephew enjoy Christmas, they’re the only kids in our family, and we missed them last year as they went to NZ, and I’ll also have some catch ups with my high school pals as well. Here’s to a smooth sailing season to all, and some events and happenings should you wish to celebrate a little more festively.<\/p>\n

Nutcracker Alberta Ballet – Until December 30<\/h3>\n

It’s been a tradition for us to attend\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Tchaikovsky’s\u00a0<\/strong>Nutcracker, I remember the first time I saw it in University. We don’t go every year, but will be sure to get to this year’s version running December 28-30th at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.<\/span> Alberta Ballet\u2019s production is choreography by Edmund Stripe and is set in turn-of-the-century Imperial Russian;the production displays more than a million dollars in stunning sets and costumes. Tchaikovsky\u2019s glorious musical score is played live by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Tickets<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

It’d been a rough week for my pal Jennifer as her poor doggie was in the hospital, so we were due for a distraction and the Nutcracker Afternoon Tea at the Trump Tour was the perfect solution. She heard some good news, so things were on the up and up! This tea is absolutely gorgeous with the intricate pastries and tiny sandwiches and chocolate mice. The lounge is decorated up for the holidays and it’s all very festive, if one wanted to sip on some champagne one could, but I had a long day ahead so stuck with the lovely selection of TWG Teas. Aburi Prime at Miku<\/h3>\n

I was first introduced to Aburi “flamed seared sushi” by Minami and Miku when they first came to Vancouver in 2008 and now quite a few restaurants serve sushi in this style. If you’re a fan of premium sushi (and who isn’t?) you’ll want to get to Aburi for their new Aburi\u00a0Prime experience. We sampled nine pieces of premium aburi \u201cflame-seared\u201d nigiri meticulously paired with garnishes to enhance the flavour of each piece, plated on handmade ceramics from Japan. You can to order a plate of Aburi Prime for $55 or an $88 set menu complete with an amuse bouche, a starter trio, the Aburi Prime, and dessert. A $44 wine, sake, and spirits pairing is optional. It’s absolutely delicious. Bring your appetite.

No event is safe from ridicule and as always, the scenarios will be based on audience suggestions challenging the quick-witted improvisers to create instant, unscripted comedy. Nostalgic or not, there\u2019s no way you\u2019ll be able to keep from laughing.\u00a0Ring in 2018 with a smile on your face, 2017<\/strong> Year In Review<\/strong> runs from December 26 to 31, with a special New Year\u2019s Eve celebration on Sunday, December 31.
