What to do in Vancouver This Week<\/h2>\n

We are already into week two of 2018 and I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things! Hoping that you are feeling energized and ready to make the most of the year, I need to kick this cold, but my motivation is gradually returning and the Tylenol Cold helps. I’m off to check out the newly opened\u00a0HJU:Z Lounge at The Westin Bayshore today,<\/a>\u00a0and am meeting with a new trainer tomorrow and looking forward to showing my aunt around the town when she visits on Friday and Saturday. Sunday I’m thinking about brunch and then maybe the Gluten Free Expo to check out the new products that are hitting the market. Here’s a few things of interest! Have a great week!<\/p>\n

Homer St. Caf\u00e9 Continues Takeover Series\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>with J.P. Wiser\u2019s Whisky<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Homer St. Caf\u00e9 and Bar<\/a>, in partnership with the Whisky Wisemen Society<\/a> will continue its monthly Takeover Series collaboration with J.P. Wiser\u2019s Whisky<\/a>.\u00a0The ongoing series will see a different distiller or brewer commandeer Homer St. Caf\u00e9\u2019s bar and kitchen for a week every month, offering drink specials, collaborative menu items and ticketed tasting dinners with experts from the participating brewery and\/or distillery.\u00a0J.P. Wiser\u2019s Whisky Takeover runs January 8-14. Wiser\u2019s and the Northern Border Collection (Lot 40, Pike Creek and Gooderham & Worts) will feature cocktails and whisky flights alongside special dishes that incorporate the whiskies on the Fresh Sheet. $1 from each featured cocktail and flight will go to the Whisky Wisemen Society\u2019s charitable fund.<\/p>\n

The event will close with a guided, family-style tasting dinner on Sunday, January 14 hosted by Wiser\u2019s Brand Ambassador Colin MacDougall. The dinner will feature a welcome cocktail, a Northern Border Collection whisky flight (paired with Executive Chef Tret Jordan, Head Chef Chris West and their team\u2019s first course) and Lot 40 Cask Strength, Pike Creek 21 yr. and Gooderham & Worts Little Trinity 17 yr. (paired with the main course). A Pike Creek cocktail will then follow along with the dessert selection.<\/p>\n

Tickets to the dinner are $75 (including tax and gratuity).<\/p>\n

Marquis Wine Cellar Winetasting 101<\/h3>\n

In this tasting class you will learn about the different grapes, how wines are made, and how to describe the tastes and aromas in wine. A guided tasting through six wines, led by Sommelier Pam Cohen, will provide a great intro to wine in a casual classroom atmosphere. Start the year off by learning how to taste wine!<\/p>\n
