This year\u2019s event saw 26 countries across five continents honoured with a place on the list, which culminated with the announcement of a new No.1, as Chef Mauro Colagreco took to the stage to collect the\u00a0 double\u00a0 honours\u00a0 for his restaurant,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mirazur.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <strong>Mirazur<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0 in Menton, France,\u00a0 as The\u00a0 World\u2019s Best Restaurant 2019 and The Best Restaurant in Europe 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Taking over the No.1 position from <strong>Osteria Francescana<\/strong>, which has been elevated to the Best of the Best hall of fame, <strong>Mirazur <\/strong>climbed to the top from the No.3 spot in 2018. In 2017, the restaurant ranked No.4 on the list. Colagreco\u2019s <strong>Mirazur <\/strong>is joined in the top three positions by <a href=\"https:\/\/noma.dk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Noma <\/strong><\/a>(No.2) in Copenhagen, Denmark, and <a href=\"https:\/\/asadoretxebarri.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Asador Etxebarri <\/strong><\/a>(No.3), in Atxondo, Spain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mirazur<\/strong>\u2019s accolade is a testament to Chef Colagreco\u2019s love of local produce, most of which is grown in the restaurant\u2019s three-tiered garden just metres from the dining room, complemented by a stunning French Riviera backdrop.<\/p>\n<p>William Drew, Director of Content for The World\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants, said: \u201cThis year we are thrilled to see <strong>Mirazur <\/strong>claim the No.1 spot after rising through the ranks since making its debut on The World\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants list at No.35 in 2009: it\u2019s been brilliant to witness its progress.\u00a0 This has been a wonderful, progressive year for the list as a whole, with so many new entries from all corners of the globe.\u00a0 We\u00a0 are\u00a0 equally\u00a0 delighted\u00a0 to\u00a0 welcome\u00a0 the\u00a0 seven\u00a0 previous\u00a0 No.1\u00a0 restaurants\u00a0 into\u00a0 the\u00a0 newly created Best of the Best category.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spain leads the way\u00a0 with seven of The World\u2019s 50 Best\u00a0 Restaurants, including three in the top 10: <strong>Asador Etxebarri <\/strong>(No.3); <strong>Mugaritz <\/strong>(No.7); and <strong>Disfrutar <\/strong>(No.9). Just outside the top 10, <strong>Azurmendi <\/strong>in Larrabetzu, leaps 29 places to No.14 to win the Westholme Highest Climber Award 2019. Peru also makes the top ten list with entries from Lima including <strong>Central <\/strong>(No.6), once again voted The Best Restaurant in South America, and <strong>Maido <\/strong>(No.10).
