Provence’s Chefs Present Lobster Many Ways Including a Lobster Boil on July 15<\/h2>\n

Who else loves lobster! It’s such a treat and here’s your chance to try it many ways at Provence Marinaside in Yaletown at the foot of Davie Street. We recently had a delicious family brunch here, and a lunch and learn with Black Hills Winery and can tell you they just keep getting better and better here. GLV<\/p>\n

\"provence<\/a> \u00a0July is lobster month at Provence, and this year they’ve got an extra special menu from Chef\u2019s Jean-Francis and Sheldon featuring one of our favourite crustaceans. The Chefs have brought back a few of the most popular dishes from previous year\u2019s lobster menus, and created a few new dishes for this year.<\/p>\n

For the appetizer, they\u2019ve brought back our CHILLED LOBSTER SALAD<\/strong> with some updates for the new season. For the more traditional among us, try the LOBSTER BISQUE<\/strong>\u00a0with Atlantic lobster meat, and a chive cr\u00e8me fraiche.<\/p>\n

For the entree, there’s options beginning with a staple from the regular menu \u2013 WHOLE ATLANTIC LOBSTER PROVEN\u00c7AL\u00a0<\/strong>with seasonal vegetables and seven grain rice. From last season, there’s the BASQUE STYLE ROASTED LOBSTER<\/strong> with baby bell peppers, Spanish chorizo sausage, fingerling potatoes, espelette, and cilantro oil. Last, but not least, there’s their take on the classic LOBSTER THERMIDOR<\/strong>, a dish created by the legendary Auguste Escoffier while working at Paris\u2019s Maison Maire in the late 1800\u2019s. Undaunted by the long history of this dish and it\u2019s creator,\u00a0 Chefs Jean-Francis and Sheldon have added their own flare to the dish \u2013 surely something not to be missed.<\/p>\n

Of course, no French meal is complete without Ros\u00e9, so Wine Director Joshua Carlson brings you a wonderful selection of Ros\u00e9 wines matched perfectly with each dish. View the full menu to the right.<\/p>\n

In addition to the regular lobster menu available throughout the month of July, we have a special event on July 15th\u00a0<\/sup>at The Wine Bar. We\u2019ve partnered with Benjamin Bridge Winery<\/a> to bring you our take on the traditional east coast lobster boil. And now, 5 strange and wonderful things you (probably) didn\u2019t know about lobsters.<\/p>\n

  1. They\u2019re cannibals\u2026 One of the reasons that nearly all lobsters are wild caught is that it\u2019s hard to make a living farming them when they eat each other every time they get hungry.<\/li>\n
  2. They taste with their legs \u2013 they have chemosensory hairs on their legs and feet that allow them to identify food.<\/li>\n
  3. Their shells can be made into golf balls. In an effort to reduce waste, a University of Maine professor created golf balls with a core made from lobster shells. They\u2019re biodegradable, and used for golfing on cruise ships or courses located near the ocean.<\/li>\n
  4. They keep growing forever, and can live for at least 100 years, although researchers aren\u2019t sure how long their life span really is.<\/li>\n
  5. In the colonial era, lobster were so plentiful and cheap that they were used to feed prisoners. In one Massachusetts town, prisoners got so tired of eating them every day that a rule was made that they only had to eat lobster three days a week.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
