Owner and North Shore resident Ophelia Arida<\/strong>, Mer\u00e9on promises to immerse locals and visitors alike in the iconic caf\u00e9 culture found throughout France in a 52-seat space that will be open for brunch 5 days a week, Wednesday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.<\/p>\n The Mer\u00e8on menu will marry French recipes and classic techniques with West Coast ingredients delivered fresh daily to the culinary team in dishes like a trio of iconic Croque<\/em>\u00a0sandwiches (Monsieur, Madame, Foresti\u00e8re<\/strong>),\u00a0Quiche du Jour<\/strong>,\u00a0Eggs en Cocotte<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/em>French Onion Soup, Signature Socca<\/strong>,<\/em>\u00a0West Coast Ni\u00e7oise Salad<\/strong>,\u00a0Duck Confit Cassoulet,<\/strong>\u00a0Steak Frites<\/strong>, and more.<\/p>\n The menu was envisioned by\u00a0Emmanuel Joinville<\/strong>, the chef\/owner and driving force behind the beloved Gastown\u00a0Bar \u00e0 Vin<\/em>\u00a0Jules Bistro,<\/strong> which has been a staple of the city\u2019s dining scene since it first opened in 2007. Joinville began his career in 1981 in his hometown of Dijon, France as an apprentice at Chef Rene Villard\u2019s Michelin 3-Starred restaurant Chateau Bourgogne and went on to become an acclaimed chef and restaurateur in his own right before emigrating to Vancouver with his family in 2000.<\/p>\n Ophelia took her inspiration for the name of the restaurant from \u2018M\u00e8re\u2019<\/em>, the French language word for \u2018mother\u2019 and an honorary title bestowed upon female cooks in France, particularly the city of Lyon that dates to the 18th<\/sup>\u00a0Century.
