On Saturday, November 16, 2024 118 guests gathered at the historic Freemasons Hall in New Westminster for Dan\u2019s Legacy\u2019s 11th Annual Chefs\u2019 Charity Dinner<\/strong>, presented by the BCGEU<\/strong>. The result? Dan\u2019s Legacy Raises $77K for At-Risk Youth at Charity Dinner an elegant evening supporting Dan\u2019s Legacy\u2019s trauma-informed, no-barrier counselling programs<\/em> and its \u201cBuild a Kitchen\u201d<\/strong> campaign.<\/p>\n

Hosted by celebrity MC Erin Cebula<\/strong>, the dinner showcased a remarkable lineup of local culinary talent, including Chef Shay Kelly<\/strong> (LACH & KEA Culinary Consultants<\/em>), Chef Andrew Brazeau-George<\/strong> (Ono Collectives<\/em>), Pastry Chef Alannah Peddie<\/strong> (Frolic & Forage Catering + Cakery<\/em>), and Chef Luke Willingdon<\/strong> with students from Dan\u2019s Diner<\/strong>. True to the organization\u2019s values, every dish was crafted using surplus food<\/em>, highlighting the chefs\u2019 creativity and commitment to sustainability.<\/p>\n

The evening began with appetizers by Chef Luke Willingdon<\/strong> and the Dan\u2019s Diner team\u2014a trio featuring Beet & Ginger Soup<\/strong>, a Grilled Tiger Prawn Skewer<\/strong>, and an Asian-inspired Shredded Beef Wonton \u201cTaco.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Next, Chef Andrew George<\/strong> and his son Chef Andrew George Jr.<\/strong> offered a duo of Elk Goulash<\/strong> and a Three Sisters Salad<\/strong>, honouring their Indigenous culinary heritage. Guests also enjoyed a Crudit\u00e9s and Cheese Grazing Table<\/strong> near the bar, encouraging mingling throughout the cocktail hour.<\/p>\n

Supporting Youth, Changing Lives<\/h3>\n

This year, Dan\u2019s Legacy anticipates providing services to roughly 700 at-risk youth<\/strong> across the Lower Mainland. Through harm-prevention counselling, wrap-around supports,<\/em> and culinary job training,<\/em> the organization empowers youth to achieve their education, employment, and recovery goals.<\/p>\n

All of Dan\u2019s Legacy\u2019s programs are free of charge<\/strong> and accessible to youth wherever they are \u2014 with no waitlist and no barriers. In 2024 alone, the organization helped more than 600 young people<\/strong> on their paths toward stability and self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n
