In this edition of <em>Conversations in Wine<\/em>, we spoke with <strong>Christa-Lee McWatters<\/strong>, whose roots in British Columbia wine run deep.<\/p>\n<p>As the daughter of BC wine pioneer <strong>Harry McWatters<\/strong>, Christa-Lee grew up immersed in the world of vineyards and cellars. I made my first wine when I was just nine years old, and from that moment, I knew this was where I belonged.<\/p>\n<h3>Who, or what, inspired you to be in wine? Do you have a mentor?<\/h3>\n<p>My dad, <strong>Harry McWatters<\/strong>, has been a lifelong mentor and inspiration. Growing up alongside him in the winery and traveling, I learned firsthand about dedication, quality, and the hard work it takes to build a successful wine business. His guidance taught me to value both tradition and innovation \u2014 lessons that continue to shape how I lead and grow in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Another important mentor was <strong>Danielle Giroux<\/strong>, Director of California Wines Canada, who was my manager at Vincor International. Danielle helped shape how I think about marketing, brand building, and long-term strategy in the wine industry. Most of our team members have over 20 years of experience in the industry, and their passion, knowledge, and dedication are inspiring.<\/p>\n<p>As a women-led company, with <strong>85% of our team being female<\/strong>, we\u2019re building a culture where everyone is empowered, brings their best, and genuinely loves what they do. Our goal is simple: share our love of British Columbia wine, support each other, and have fun every single day while doing it.<\/p>\n<h3>If wine wasn\u2019t your career, what would you be doing?<\/h3>\n<p>When I was younger, I always wanted to be a helicopter pilot.<\/p>\n<h3>Are you part of an organization for women in wine?<\/h3>\n<p>Yes, I am a director on the board for <a href=\"https:\/\/lesdames.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Les Dames d\u2019Escoffier<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Any advice for women wanting to follow in your footsteps?<\/h3>\n<p>Make sure you have fun.
