You don\u2019t have to head to the Okanagan for a wine-country road trip. This October, the Fraser Valley Wine Passport<\/strong> is back, bringing together wineries, cideries and a distillery across Langley, Abbotsford and Surrey for a month of tastings close to home.<\/p>\n\n

Running October 1 to 31<\/strong>, the passport includes 13 wineries, three cideries and one distillery<\/strong>, with each participating stop offering a tasting experience. Some locations are pouring changing daily selections or tasting flights, while others add cocktails, food, patios, picnic areas or full restaurant experiences. Every stop is also required to offer a non-alcoholic option.<\/p>\n\n

At $30 including tax<\/strong>, it is an unusually affordable way to explore the Fraser Valley beverage scene. Half of the passport price goes directly to participating businesses, while the other $15 supports local food banks in the communities taking part. Passports are available from participating producers while supplies last.<\/p>\n\n

The format also makes the passport easy to tailor to your schedule. There is no need to tackle the entire route in a weekend. Tastings can be spread throughout October, making it just as suitable for a spontaneous afternoon out as a month-long project to discover new local favourites. Tourism Langley recommends checking individual hours and reservation requirements before setting out, particularly as many producers shift to fall schedules.<\/p>\n\n

Wine, cider and spirits in Vancouver\u2019s backyard<\/h2>\n\n

What makes the Fraser Valley particularly interesting right now is the diversity of what is being poured. The region has matured well beyond a simple winery route, with craft cider and spirits now sitting naturally alongside wine.<\/p>\n\n

Participating producers include familiar names such as Township 7 Vineyards & Winery, Chaberton Estate Winery, Backyard Vineyards, Fraser Valley Cider Company, Manners Cider, Taves Estate Cidery, Maan Farms Estate Winery, Mt. Lehman Winery, Ripples Winery and Gate 22 Winery<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n\n

For cider drinkers, this year\u2019s passport is especially useful. Fraser Valley Cider Company, for example, is offering a four-pour cider flight with the purchase of food on weekdays, while other properties use their orchard and farm settings to turn the tasting into a longer visit.<\/p>\n\n

That mix reflects a broader shift in B.C. beverage tourism. Visitors increasingly want more than a quick sample at a tasting bar. They are looking for food, scenery, storytelling and a reason to linger. The Fraser Valley lends itself particularly well to that style of outing because producers are spread through working farmland rather than concentrated in one urban tasting district.<\/p>\n\n

Make a day of it<\/h2>\n\n

A good approach is to choose three or four nearby stops<\/strong>, build in lunch and leave plenty of time between tastings rather than trying to collect every stamp at once. Langley has the largest concentration of participating producers, while Abbotsford offers an easy mix of winery, cidery and farm experiences. Surrey\u2019s Gate 22 Winery gives the route another stop closer to Metro Vancouver.<\/p>\n\n

Because there is a non-alcoholic option at every location, designated drivers do not have to spend the day drinking water while everyone else tastes.<\/p>\n\n

The Fraser Valley Wine Passport is also a good reminder that one of B.C.\u2019s most accessible beverage regions sits practically on Vancouver\u2019s doorstep. October brings cooler weather, fall colour and a quieter pace in the tasting rooms, arguably one of the best times to explore it.<\/p>\n\n
