Marrakech Old Fashioned

A sultry, spiced riff perfect for fall gatherings, designed to highlight the saffron, ginger, and citrus notes of Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 oz Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices
  • 1/4 oz saffron honey syrup
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • 1 star anise garnish

Method
 

  1. Add the whisky, saffron-honey syrup, and orange bitters to a mixing glass filled with ice.
  2. Stir until well-chilled and silky, about 20–25 seconds.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.
  4. Express an orange peel over the drink and garnish with the peel and a star anise pod. (Slice a thin, clean piece of orange peel (zest), avoiding too much bitter white pith. Hold the peel with the colored side facing down over the drink, with your fingers on the edges. Gently but firmly twist or bend the peel to force the essential oils out in a fine spray over the drink. You can then rub the peel around the rim for more flavor, drop it in the drink, or discard it, depending on the recipe.)
