Thankfully Vancouver is full of chocolate experts who have fortunately crafted amazing creations that will help you win your way into anyone’s heart. and we’ve rounded them up here. Wow that sounds corny. Ah Valentine’s Day; always a bit corny.

First up our our pals at East Van Roasters. Not only are they crafting bean to bar chocolate while supporting and training to the women residents of the Rainier Hotel and other downtown Eastside housing initiatives, but there chocolate and coffee is truly delicious. Our Valentine’s Chocolates offerings:

I haven’t yet visited Chez Christophe on Hastings in Burnaby but came across Richard Wolak at Vancouver Foodster’s photo above and couldn’t resist adding. He also has some other ideas of his own here.

DesireCocoaNymph has these cinnamon hearts with a dark chocolate shell, gold dusted, and layer of dense cinnamon and honey elixir with a whipped cinnamon ganache. “If you’re lonely, it might just unbreak your heart”, chocolatiere Rachael Sawaztky states.

Vancouver’s Easter Treats

It’s good Friday in Vancouver and another long weekend when those with real jobs take time off and us freelancers catch up on our never ending to do lists or organize our taxes (and some of us a few years of taxes).  I am working all weekend and not really even a huge fan of sweets, so I’ll be admiring the photos of chocolate and distracting myself from the real work by adding to this list of Easter treats, perhaps sussing out some brunches and looking out for generally anything  bunny-related.

Bella Gellateria Hot Cross Gelato with Cinnamon & Rum Soaked Raisins (this is how I imagine it looking as I have yet to get down to lick some)

An Evening To Benefit The Canadian Red Cross

Take a group of compassionate chefs and talented bartenders, add a splash or two of Canada’s top entertainers and it’s a special evening of fundraising on behalf of those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan’s northern regions.

Join Tojo-san as he brings together a culinary cast of John Bishop (Bishop’s), Pino Posteraro (Cioppino’s), Thomas Haas (Thomas Haas Chocolates & Patisserie), Quang Dang (Diva at the Met), Wayne Martin (Crave Restaurant), Ned Bell (The Rosewood Hotel Georgia) and Eleanor Chow (Chambar/The Dirty Apron Cooking School) with bartenders, David Wolowydnik (West) and Danielle Tatarin (The Keefer Bar) for an exquisite evening of food and wine topped off with performances by Jann Arden and the Canadian Tenors. Emceed by the affable Vicki Gabereau, the fundraising reception for the Canadian Red Cross on June 12th will feature specialties from each of Vancouver’s leading restaurants, intimate performances by Canadian icons and a silent auction of outstanding culinary experiences.
