Gday and a personal note from me. How was your self esteem growing up? Did you have high self worth and at least some pride in the way you looked. I know I did not. Despite the fact that I was 50 lbs less than I am now I felt fat, unworthy, ugly and just generally not the perfect girl I was “supposed” to be. This led to dieting, eating disorders, mental health challenges, abusive relationships and a lot of wasted time worrying about something that really didn’t exist or matter. Currently I am now not the ideal weight, but…

This is the tenth year for Taste of Yaletown coming up from October 16 – 30th, 2014 and features 25 Yaletown restaurants. Check out menus in either set prices of $25, $35, and $45 for both the lunchtime and dinnertime scenes. Chefs whip up some pretty interesting dishes that aren’t usually on the menu during the festival and even cooler is that a portion of their profits from the Taste of Yaletown event in support of longtime charity partner, The Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Some menus even include drink pairings. We sampled two menus from the festival, one at the The New Oxford, and the…
On Oct 30 Uva Wine & Cocktail Bar will be hosting it’s first ever Red-Dead Prom! Dress in your zombie best and dance the night away while sipping on cocktails so delicious it’s scary. This event is creepishly sponsored by Bittered Sling Bitters, Skyy Spirits, Campari America, Aperol, Wild Turkey, Sailor Jerry and Disaronno. Cocktails, canapes and kick ass music by DJ AllGood – kick it Dead Red Prom, 90s style. It’s really the exact prom we always wanted to go to, but seemed a little eccentric for main stream public schools. We want 90s. We want booze. We want…
President’s Choice had something to talk about and they wanted me to be a part of it. Honoured, I headed out to Toronto to meet their marketing team and was treated like a star as I waited to see what the big news was. I flew out a few days early to check out Toronto in more detail as it had been forever (more soon on that as I am seriously behind on posting), and then headed to Yorkville to check into the hotel for this Loblaw news experience. I was greeted with a big basket of fruit and snacks…
From the same folks that own some of our favourite Vancouver Japanese Izakayas, both the downtown Kingyo Restaurant and Kitsilano’s Suika, came Rajio, replacing Pair Bistro last year, just west of Alma on West 10th. Raijo’s room is much smaller that its sister’s spaces, but there’s the same high energy vibe and shouts back and forth from the servers to the bartenders, chefs and customers. We were greeted with “Irashaimase” (welcome)! We hadn’t been, but it was definitely on the must visit list and then the the Vaneats.ca package came along and we decided time to get to know are not too distant…

On Thursday, October 30 and Friday, October 31 — the two days known across the world as “Devil’s Night” and Halloween, respectively — Cibo’s Chef Kassam will prepare a devilishly delectable five-course tasting menu that serves up clever nods to the feast of All Hallows’ Day, traditionally celebrated the day after Halloween. Chef Kassam’s menu is alternately sinister and sumptuous. In addition to à la carte options, the special five-course tasting menu will be offered for $69 per person, or $99 per person including wine pairings hand-selected by General Manager and Wine Director Robert Stelmachuk. – MENU – Roasted Bone Marrow Apple salad, parsley, ramps, capers, housemade sourdough Grilled Ox Heart Salad of watercress, lentils…

Last week the Samuel Adams crew hit Gastown’s Irish Heather for an evening to celebrate some of “The Classics”; in this case a beer & fish fry with a large dose of trivia. Ten teams of four gathered to answer questions in four trivia sessions and compete to win some great Irish Heather and Heather Hospitality gift certs. We were all treated to couple pints along with a tasty fish fry and had some fun debating the very intense trivia questions as one of the official trivia teams. Michael and I seem to fair quite well in most trivia competitions, and we had brought in pals…
