Morroco West Restaurant

Morocco West Restaurant popped up earlier this year in the West End just off Robson on Jervis. The team behind the venture, Chef Nourdine Majdoubi and Kevin Lin are a worldly crew, having worked in restaurants and hotels throughout Europe and Asia, and, now settled in Vancouver, have chosen to bring guesst a Moroccan experience with West Coast flair.

The room is fairly unassuming, walking by you’d think perhaps a cafe, but the food has far more flair, packed full of flavour and served up in lovely colourful tagines.

Moroccan food is sharing food, so it’s best to bring a few friends so you can sample through many tapas and split some of the tagines and other mains.

We adore the Zaalouk, an eggplant spread served up with their house-made bread that we could devour by the spoonful.

Another must are the crispy Lamb Merguez Sausage Samosas with dollops of smoked tomato chutney.

The meatballs as tasty, but I we ordered both these and the Meatball Tagine, which was a bit of overkill, so stick to the tagine and maybe switch it up with some Chermoula Prawns in a cilantro pesto butter or a Chicken Kebab alongside some Saron rice and sweet pepper coulis

Do be sure to sample the Lamb Couscous,  a richly flavoured dish full of Ras-el-hanout braised lamb, root vegetables, chickpeas, onion confit, raisins, Moroccan jus, a generous portion that made a tasty sandwich the next day.

As mentioned, the Meatball Tagine is also worthy of your love, the meatballs swim ain a white bean ragout, alongside some zucchini and carrots.
The desserts of full of fruity and floral flavours. Always a brulee fan, their take on it, a Couscous Brûlée, is excellent, and also gives you some fruit serving for the day as it’s served with apricots, prunes, raisins and flavoured with cinnamon. Another winner is the Honey Lavender Pannacotta, decorated with fresh fruit.
