The First High Tea Served

Co-owner Kathy Wyder’s grandma was the inspiration for the tea room after lamenting there wasn’t one in Kerrisdale. So Kathy and a friend opened the tea room’s doors in October 1995. Since then, staff have poured countless cups of steaming tea in elegant china and served elegant sweets and scones, along with breakfast and lunch to anyone who simply want a break from the hectic pace of life.

Growing demand for a quiet, old-fashioned afternoon tea spurred the decision to move from its current home on West Boulevard to a larger location at 2138 West 40th Avenue. They will be able to serve more traditional high tea to customers later this summer when it opens, but the traditions you have come to love will remain the same.

The larger Secret Garden will allow for milestone events and large gatherings such as bridal showers, birthdays and other celebrations in their customers’ lives.

  1. I always liked the charming details…from the fresh flowers to the China tea cabinet to the little bumble bees on the table cloths in the front parlor.

  2. It’s so simple but I love ginger or peppermint tea – always feels like I’m doing my body some good!

  3. My all-time favourite tea is creamy earl grey with lavender! I just love how its fragrance slowly perfumes the air & create a beautifully tranquil atmosphere for its drinker! <3

  4. my favourite is peppermint, but in the summer, I find I really like fruity teas (berry ones usually)

  5. A pot of Creamy Earl Grey is must have!!! My second favourite is Buckingham Palace. Having afternoon tea at Secret Garden Tea Company is the best!!!

  6. Indian chai is my absolute fave tea with milk and honey mmmm…I would love to treat myself n hubby for a delicious date afternoon at high tea. Thanks for the chance to win, Twitter fan @plumerea

  7. My favourite type of tea is Earl Grey but there are a lot of types I have yet to try!

  8. i like black teas — basic English Breakfast, or Earl Gray (with or without lavender), but my favorite may be coconut. :)<

  9. Orange cinnamon tea is lovely! I am also a fan of chocolate teas, although I love matcha the most!

  10. Earl Grey. Traditional, I know, but tasty. In India, I loved the cardamom chai. Cannot find the same one here.
