Chicha has been marvelous every time I’ve been, but this night they really shone! Next on my list is getting there for brunch.

Celebrate Sakura at Miku 

Until April 17 – Miku Sakura Roll ($19) features marinated sockeye salmon, hotate, cucumber, and asparagus wrapped in seared kanpachi and shiso. It is then topped with golden tobiko and a salted sakura flower.

Executive Pastry Chef Chris Janik has also created a spring dessert inspired by cherry blossoms called the Cherry Pistachio Terrine with layers of pistachio and coconut genoise, chocolate souffle, mascarpone mousse, cherry gelée, and black cherry-sakekasu sorbet.

Golden Dumpling Cook Off and Derby August 12!

Bao Bei Chinese Brasserie and Here There present Vancouver’s Golden Dumpling Cook Off!

The Cookoff returns August 9th! Refreshments are by Red Truck Brewery, restaurants will plate fresh takes on the filling-and-wrapper format. An expert panel of judges will taste their way through entries from 17 restaurants battling to fill, wrap, steam and fry their way to the top. The victorious challenger wins full bragging rights and claims the legendary Golden Dumpling trophy.


Festival-goers won’t want to miss the Dumpling Derby, when prizes are awarded to hungry competitors in a vicious eating contest. During separate men’s and women’s heats of two suspenseful minutes each, eight men and eight women gulp down dozens of dumplings. The winner of each category is declared the Golden Dumpling Eating Champion, and both take home a coveted prize.

Competitors include Cinara, Pidgin, Sai Woo, Tableau, Cibo Trattoria, Wildebeest, La Mezcaleria, Gyoza Bar, Bestie, Au Comptoir, Maenam, The Union, Annalena, Chicha, Harvest, The Acorn, Fable Kitchen and Cafe Medina.

While Vancouver has finally made some progress in the Mexican food department, the Latin food scene had tended to drag well behind. Enter Chicha Restaurant to tempt our taste buds by serving up all things Peruvian.

Chicha is named after the beverage Chicha Morado, a drink made from purple corn, spices, pineapple, and citrus that is crafted fresh at Chicha, just like everything else at the restaurant.

Vancouver Farmers Market Ripe – Dinner Fundraiser

ripeSave the date! On Sunday October 20th, 2013, the Vancouver Farmers Markets will present our annual dinner fundraiser RIPE, at the Exhibition Hall of the Roundhouse Community Centre. A family style feast of market food, RIPE is a harvest celebration of our farms and producers, and a feature event of the 5th Annual Sustenance Festival.

Delicious appetizers followed by a sit down meal, signature cocktails, a silent auction, and live entertainment are just some of the features of this year’s RIPE event. Starring Burdock & Co., Vij’s Rangoli, and the Glenburn Soda Fountain (more to be announced in the coming weeks), RIPE is an evening not to be missed! Tickets prices are $75 for adults and $15 for children under 12, and will be available in August at all VFM markets and on our website.

Latin American food in Vancouver just far more exciting with the opening of Chicha at 136 East Broadway. Chicha is brought to us by chefs Shelome Bouvette Allison Flook, previously of Davie Street’s Lolita’s and partner Kumiko Umeno.

Bouvette and Flook are  freshly back from touring Peru ensuring the menu is both authenticity and tastiness.

Enjoy Pisco (a grape brandy) based drinks such as a fresh lime margarita or pisco sour and work your way through the menu.  Items not to miss are the Quinoa salad, seafood ceviche, empanadas. and the variety of locally sourced meat skewers.Chef Meets Grape

ChefmeetsGrape is back June 5 celebrating the finest offerings of wine and food from across our province. The Wines of British Columbia are featured and all proceeds go directly to Arts Club productions, youth education, and community outreach programs.

The main event is the largest tasting of BC VQA wines in Vancouver, bringing together over 75 top BC wineries such as Painted Rock and Joie Farm wines. Select restaurants will pair sweet and savoury dishes with BC VQA wines showing off the best of our region and representing dining hot spots from throughout BC.
