What’s Good This Week August 12 Edition

Things Happening in and Around Vancouver This Week

It’s mid-August already? Where has the summer gone? I’m determined to take full advantage of the last few weeks of the season, even if I look outside and see rain today. This week it’s all about girl power as Les Dame d’Escoffier are hosting our annual fundraiser at restaurants across BC, on August 14th and in Victoria on  August 15th, with 100% of the ticket price going towards scholarships to women. There’s also YES SHEF, at Chambar, August 12th, where female chefs and sommeliers are getting together to also raise funds for scholarships for women. There’s some higher education for you if you attend either event as well as for the students who will benefit. Here’s a bit more information on these events and a few other suggestions.

YES SHEF August 12

This event is sold out, but it’s worth mentioning because it’s just so awesome and the cause is close to our hearts. The YES SHEF fundraiser will raise scholarship funds to support the next generation of hospitality leaders. It’s a long-table dinner at Chambar featuring talented female Chefs and Sommeliers who are advocating for equal representation in hospitality leadership. This culinary celebration will feature five unique courses, each prepared by a notable female Chef and a culinary student apprentice. The Women of Wine will select a pairing to compliment each flavour profile of the dish. I’ll be there with coverage and will be reporting during and after. Head to my Instagram for the stories tomorrow! https://www.instagram.com/goodlifevan/

Summerdine

Les Dames Summerdine August 14/Victoria August 15

This is the annual event for Les Dames d’Escoffier, an organization of women leaders in food, beverage and hospitality whose mission is to education, provide scholarships and philanthropy, and I am a member. Restaurants across BC have donated a table and you can still buy a seat at a few and contribute to our cause. Victoria is sold out, but there are still a few seats in Vancouver at Bufala and Pacific Yacht Charters (where I’ll be), and in the Okanagan there’s a single seat at Cedar Creek and 6 at Red Fox Club at Indigenous World Winery. TICKETS HERE.

garagiste

Garagiste North August 18

If you’re lucky enough to be spending time in the Okanagan this summer, there’s plenty to do up there including this great wine festival that is all about the small producers that you hardly ever get to try because their production isn’t big enough to hit the mass market. You’ll find over 25 hard to find, cool, artisan winemakers plus food truck service!
