58 West Art Gives Back Auction

I attended a media preview for the 58 West Hastings Art Project and was impressed by this collection of generously donated works from seven Canadian artists. The pieces will be auctioned off at the Chinatown Foundation’s Autumn Gala on November 9th. Each artist has either lived, worked, or studied in Chinatown or the Downtown Eastside neighbourhood.

58 West Hastings (58WH) will be a 10-storey innovative health and social housing project in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. This project will provide 231 affordable housing units, a 50,000-sqft integrated health centre, and skill-building programs and resources. The project brings together all three levels of government, partner organizations of various sectors, and renowned Canadian artists.

ART GIVES BACK

Inspired by the innovative project, Angela Grossmann and Martha Sturdy spearheaded conversations amongst Vancouver’s community of artists who have lived, worked, and studied in the neighbourhood. The result is the 58WH Art Project, featuring seven internationally renowned Canadian artists. An impressive collection of generously donated artworks will be auctioned on November 9th at the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation Autumn Gala in support of the project. Advance Online Bidding for the works of art is now closed.

Reproductions of each donated work of art will be translated into the design of the building.
