With a love for the classics and a no-nonsense approach to cocktails, it’s only fitting that Steve Da Cruz will offer a list of over 100 drinks at the corner suite bistro de luxe. For the bar program at the new restaurant (which is set to open in July) Da Cruz – who honed his skills behind the wood in New York City before returning to Vancouver – has developed a guide to cocktails unlike any other ever devised before. Aptly named The Genuine Article the list includes recipes for some of the world’s oldest and most iconic drinks.

Drinks in the Genuine Article are divided into specific and easy to follow categories. There?s a page for Martinis with a breakdown of what makes a Boston Bullet, a Straight Up, a Knickerbocker and a Hearst; a Les Royale section for those who prefer to imbibe in something a little more bubbly; a list of 106 classic cocktails all alphabetized and broken down into their basic parts, and a contemporary section that will feature custom creations inspired by seasonal fruits. The Genuine Article will also include a rotating guestbook with recipes from other well-known internationally located bartenders. Da Cruz plans to add to The Genuine Article and its guestbook often, so visitors to the corner suite bistro de luxe will always have the opportunity to try something new.

Mixologists, cocktail enthusiasts and the curious alike are invited to preview what?s to come and maybe even try their hand at making a few of these recipes at home before the restaurant opens to the public this summer.

the corner suite bistro de luxe will serve lunch from noon until 5:00 pm and dinner until 1:00 am Monday through Saturday, closing at midnight on Sundays. Located on the corner of 850 Thurlow Street, the room will have 130 seats total, with 90 in the dining room and 40 in the bar.

The restaurant is anticipated to open July 2009.
