Garlic Fun for the Whole Family

So you think you know garlic? Think again! The Richmond Sharing Farm at 2631 Westminster Highway, invites you to visit its site for the 3rd annual Garlic Festival on August 14th from 10am to 2pm. Fresh, locally grown garlic will be on sale along with pickled garlic scapes, fresh garlic bread, and garlic ice cream. Admission is free and families are most welcome. Free parking is available at Spulukwuks School and the farm is just a 10 minute stroll from the lot.

Most of the garlic sold in supermarkets is imported from China and tends to flavourless. This is garlic with a kick! Choose from varieties like Music, Hornby and Russian softneck. Individual bulbs retail for $3 each or can also be purchased for $15/lb. All proceeds will go towards the Sharing Farm, which grows food for the Richmond Food Bank.

Families will enjoy the face painting, crafts table and live entertainment provided by Betty Berda, Winter Mitts and Da Bredheren. Garlic ice cream, provided by Casa Gelato, is sure to be a hit. Take a stroll through the beautiful Terra Nova Park and peek over at the chicken coop where Silkies & English Bantams have just begun laying.

In addition to the garlic, winter vegetable seedlings will also be on sale so that gardeners can extend their growing season into January and February. Purple sprouting broccoli, Walla Walla onions, kale and winter lettuce are just some of the seedlings being offered.
