Road 13 is a family run winery owned by Mick and Pam Luckhurst. The couple released the Honest John series of wine as a tribute to Honest John Oliver, the Premier of BC in the early 1900’s. Oliver was responsible for the construction of the irrigation canal that transformed the South Okanagan, specifically the Golden Mile, into arable farmland.
This premium Merlot is a bright fruit wine exhibiting fruity characteristics of ripe cherry, plum, with some granite, minerality and a smoky finish. Selling at $18.99, this is a perfect compliment to a plate of ribs, pork roast with cherry relish, or meat lasagna.
Road 13 Honest John is my current favourite local red. It goes with everything and is awesome on its own.
