What we’re into this week

We hope everyone is doing as best as can be expected right now. It is indeed a difficult time for all and we are being tested once again. Thoughts are with all of those whose homes, land and livelihoods are being affected. Climate change is very real and we’re going to be even more diligent, personally, to live more sustainably and reduce our footprint. There’s a number of events to support your local food, wine and cultural scene including Cornucopia and events at The Arts Club Theatre.

We’ve just returned from the Planted Expo and discovered so many very tasty items, many of them qualifiers for living more sustainably.

One of the most impressive items was the Azuma Foods “Seafood”, made from tomatoes. It’s not available yet, and it certainly isn’t going to replace our sushi fixes, but we’d definitely get creative with the “tuna”, “salmon” and “squid”.  More on our discoveries soon.

The Got Craft? Holiday Virtual Market online event is here until Sunday, November 28 at https://shop.gotcraft.com and it features 75 handmade makers from across Canada, shop from the comfort and safety of your own home. Attendees to the online event will have the choice of receiving their orders via free local curbside pick up or flat fee shipping within Canada and to the US.

Last week we enjoyed Whistler and had a spectacular meal at Joe Fortes, one of the newest restaurants up there. More on that soon!

Cornucopia

Cornucopia is in full swing and there’s only one more weekend left. We attended the Masi Dinner at the Bearfoot Bistro and Chef Melissa Craig and her team blew us away with their talent and innovation. We watched the kitchen brigade pull each course together and it was like watching a musical unfold. What a leader this chef is.

I also went to my first wine seminar in a very long time and learned a ton, as always, from Samantha Rahn in her Value Wine sessions. More on that seminar, and that magical Bearfoot dinner shortly.

NOTE – Bearfoot Bistro has another dinner this weekend with Hope Family Wines and we’re wishing we could do it all over again.

The Arts Club’s 2021–2022 season opener at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage puts a heartwarming country twist on a Christmas classic: Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol, with music and lyrics by the iconic Dolly Parton, starts November 18 and will run through January 2.

Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol sets its stage in 1930s East Tennessee, reimagining Ebenezer Scrooge (David Adams) as the owner of a mining company town nestled neatly in the Smoky Mountains. As a Christmas Eve snowstorm rages throughout the night, Scrooge must revisit his past, present, and future—with the help of his deceased business partner’s spirit and three ghosts—to understand the true meaning of Christmas: empathy and community. Combining the classic characters of Charles Dickens with the songwriting expertise of Dolly Parton, Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol is a musical rediscovery of joy and compassion through understanding the true wealth that comes from connection.
