Each year Vancouverites flock to the beaches of English Bay to enjoy the colourful extravaganza of the Celebration of Lights. As exciting as the crowd of nearly 300,000 people can be, this year A Loving Spoonful, Vancouver’s famed charity bringing food to people with HIV/AIDS, offers something that combines both tradition and innovation. Dine Above the Stars premiers on July 28th at 6 pm coined as an exclusive dining experience by The Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites & Sumac Ridge Estate Winery in support of A Loving Spoonful.
On the top floor of the Coast Plaza Hotel, 88 guests will enjoy an intimate five course dinner paired with unique flavours of vino by Sumac Ridge Estate Winery. The evening will begin with a champagne reception and end with perfect views of the colourful Celebration of Lights. A thrilling silent auction during the evening will feature: an 8 person gourmet dinner prepared in the privacy of your own home by the Executive Chef of the Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites accompanied by 24 Assorted bottles donated by Sumac Ridge Estate Winery; a private three hour bike tour of the Vancouver Biennale sculpture installations for ten guests; complimentary tickets to the 2011 Vancouver Symphony Season and much more all proceeds going to A Loving Spoonful.
As many as 80% of AIDS deaths are immediately precipitated by malnutrition rather than by the disease itself. A Loving Spoonful is a Vancouver based, volunteer driven, non-partisan Society that provides free, nutritious meals to people living with HIV/AIDS.Every week, all year round for over 20 years, A Loving Spoonful volunteers deliver frozen meals and snack packs to men, women and children who are primarily homebound with AIDS. In 2009 ALS provided over 100,000 meals with an average meal cost of only $3.55.
