Graffigna Malbec and Stoneleigh Sauvingon Blanc tasting
4-7 pm Sunday December 26
This tasting little malbec is deep red with purple nuances, with a complex bouquet of ripe blackberries and aromas of black pepper. Round and velvety, it’s a steal at $15.15. Great for by the case for New Year’s eve parties! The Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc being slightly lower in yield, has produced some fantastic fruit into the winery. This has given us some great parcels of wine to play with and you can see this in the finished blend. This wine presents concentrated fruit, ripe tropical and citrus notes and a racy acidity to tie it all together.
Adami Prosecco Tasting
4-7 pm Wednesday December 29
Three amazing Prosecco’s from one of the few DOCG producers in the Prosecco region. These fine bubbles will be a perfect fit on New Year’s eve!
Lallier Champagne Tasting
4-7 pm Thursday December 30
Chef of the year in 2005 for Canada, Marcus VonAlbrecht, along with the Junior Culinary Canadian team will be putting together a menu of wonderful tapas to be paired with award winning Champagnes from Lallier. Lallier is a small family concern, crafting beautiful blends from Grand Cru sites around Ay (also home to Bollinger, but Lalliers cellars are older). Much of their fruit is sourced from ‘Grand Cru’ vineyards – the crème de la crème of vineyard sites, classified as 100 out of 100. Lallier use a high proportion of Pinot Noir in their blend (the Rosé is 100% Pinot Noir), so with Champagne Lallier you get a Pinot Noir dominated blend from Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites – a rarity.
There is incredible investment that has gone into this wine. Matured in the bottle on its lees in chalk cellars for four years, the result is truly brilliant Champagnes with a brilliant color, good steady fizz, and that powerful typical ‘bready’ Champagne nose. These champagnes are truly a celebration in and of itself.
We will also be selling the team Canada cookbooks to help fund the Junior Culinary team’s cooking adventures.
New and Exciting Products
Wines
- 2008 Clos du Soleil Signature Red Wine – skillfully blended from select blocks in Osoyoos and the Similkameen by star winemaker Ann Sperling. The grapes were hand harvested, hand sorted and aged for 18 months in 80% French and 20% American oak barrels. 52% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Caberent Franc and 9% Malbec.
- 2008 Orofino Pinot Noir – 100% Pinot aged for 16 months in premium French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered. A complex blend of black cherry and spicy aromatics. Full, smooth and velvety..great with duck!
- 2004 vintage Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne – Floral, citrus and spice aromas and flavors are at the forefront of this filigree, delicate Champagne, which is harmonious and well-defined, with a long aftertaste of roasted nut and toast. Very dry. Drink now through 2028. (93 points, Wine Spectator, Dec 15, 2010 issue)
Beers
- Abbaye des Rocs Speciale Noel – a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster’s great satisfaction.
- La Moneuse Speciale Noel – Unfiltered and bottle conditioned. A special edition of la Moneuse, extra rich for the winter season. Pure dark amber beer with 3 types of malts.
- Deshutes Black Butte Porter – Deshutes flagship beer, Black Butte Porter defined Deschutes as a place intent to follow its own brewing muse. At a time when dark beer was viewed with suspicion, this deep, satiny brew went out and dispelled the myths for a generation of enthusiasts. Black Butte is rich in flavor yet easy to drink, with a creamy, smooth mouth feel. The slight hop bitterness up front only enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish to come. It continues to reap accolades and medals from those who know best.
Spirits
Aha Toro Diva Tequila – The pale pink colour of Diva comes from 2 to 3 months ageing in Merlot wine casks.
A soft, well rounded Reposado made from 100% agave. The nose shows Port-like flavours of raisins, prunes, Christmas cake and chocolate. The palate is smooth and full with a long, well-rounded finish.
- Bacardi Legacy – This limited edition bottle of Bacardi is a superior rum based on the original design from 1909. It was producted by Bacardi Y Compania S.A. de C.V. at the Destileria La Galarza in Mexic under the close supervision of Jose Sanchez Gavito, Maestro de Ron Bacardi. It has been certified as meeting the flavour profile of the first blending in 1862.
- Glenglassaugh 40 YO Single Malt Scotch – Distilled in 1967 and bottled in 2009, this 41 year old whisky contains whisky from some of the oldest casks at the distillery. This is bottle number 67 of 225. Comes with a certificate of authenticity and two crystal glasses in it’s own case.
