All I Want For Christmas With Prevail

Prevail

Prevail may be known best for his hip hop art as a member of Swollen Members, but he’s also the editor of PrevailPrevail, a guide to the good life, and contributes to Montecristo Magazine.  You might find him hosting an event you attend as he hosts many around town including fundraisers and product launches, and he’s even made his own beer! Prevail’s writing and his songs lyrics are a treat to read and listen to, chock full of highly intellectual thoughts. He’s no regular rap artist!

1 )  What is on your wish list for the holidays? Please name 3 things. Music related. Spirits related. Food related. P – On the music end of things, I think piano lessons would be grand. And not to sound too opulent but, a bottle of Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque fits perfectly into a stocking. In terms of food, a nice Coq au Vin always warms my heart.

2)  What is the best gift you EVER got? P -I was the classic kid who would play with the empty boxes first and then head for the toys. One year something came in a box big enough for my sister and I to jump inside and pretend we were flying into space in a cardboard spaceship. It’s one of my fondest memories.

3)  What is the best gift you EVER gave? P- Space travel.

renata

4) What songs are you listening to over the holidays? P – I have become a huge fan of symphonic and operatic music over the years. Assuredly, every holiday season for the past decade, you can hear Gyorgy Ligeti and Renata Scotto’s La Traviata, flowing through my house.

nota bene

5)  What do you bring to a holiday party? P – If it’s a potluck set up, my grandmas candied baked yams are always a crowd pleaser. If it’s more of a: “bring a bottle of something”, I go for the Nota Bene by Blackhills Vineyard.

7) How will you celebrate the holidays this year? P – My girlfriend has some friends who just recently moved here from Germany and they are having their first Christmas in Canada so we are going to celebrate with them.

salty scot

8) What are your favourite winter brews? P – I really like the Salty Scot by Parallel 49. A nice caramel note with a slight salinity, I have had it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream as a float and it was perfect.

A happy and tasty holidays to you Prevail!
