Burnaby’s Empty Bowls Project is excited to announce the date of our fifth Gala Reception. On Wednesday, April 29 2009 we will host a fabulous fundraising event that will help feed the hungry in our community while treating guests to tasty bites prepared by some of Burnaby’s hottest chefs. In 2007 we raised over $23,000 for the Food First Committee, and we hope to equal or surpass that goal this year.
The reception-style Gala will be held in the Crystal Ballroom of Burnaby’s four-diamond Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel. Bites for the event will be prepared by celebrated local chefs: Chef John Garrett of Burnaby’s Horizons Restaurant, Chef Scott Jaeger of The Pear Tree Restaurant, Chef Tong Lim of the Hilton, Chef Jack Kuyer of The Valley Bakery, and the Hart House Restaurant are sure to surprise and delight you with their culinary creations.
Some of the dishes featured at the event will include
o The Pear Tree’s famous Spring Pea Ravioli with Crisp Double Smoked Bacon
o Hart House’s mouthwatering Herb Goats Cheese Roulade with Beet Coulis
o Horizons’ crowd-pleasing Cold Smoked Rainbow Trout and Baby Potato Green Bean Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette
Guests will also enjoy entertainment by the “Now’s the Time” Trio and a silent auction. In addition, each guest at the Gala will also be given a beautifully handcrafted ceramic bowl to take home as a memento. The Honourary Chair for the evening will be Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan along with celebrity emcee, Dawn Chubai of CityTV.
Proceeds will go to Burnaby’s Food First Committee, a coalition of community service organizations and volunteers who work to address food security and hunger issues in Burnaby. We invite you to join us for a fun evening at this worthwhile event!
